Doing Your Own Car Repair?
In This Tough Economy Time, Is It Good To Do Your Own Car Repair Most Popular Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory ?

Let me start with a story. Several months ago a pipe burst under the main bathroom in our home. I decided I could approach this and repair the pipe and reroute it so that it no longer runs under the foundation of the house. 2 weeks into it and I had a huge hole in the wall where I decided to tap on to the hot water pipe. And we had no hot water in the house. I had also broken the vanity around the main bathroom sink. I finally called a plumber who came out and re routed the pipe through the attic in one day. He charged me $500. Top Ten Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory I then had to call a general contractor to come repair the hole in my wall and install a new vanity. Another $500. If I had called the plumber in the beginning I would have only spent $500 and had it repaired that day. And my wife would have been much happier.

The point of my story? I am a mechanic. Not a plumber. I did more damage to my home by not knowing what I was doing.

If the car you are talking about repairing is your main form of transportation, the family car so to speak, then no I would not attempt to learn how to repair my own car on that one. You could end up doing greater damage and costing yourself more money in the long run. And you could end up having a lot of down time. You want to keep your wife happy? LEAVE THE CAR ALONE! Trust me on this one.

If it is a secondary car, then I would certainly give it a shot if I wanted to learn how to fix cars.

I do see your point. When money is tight, we do all we can to save some dollars. Wandering into the unkown is not a good way to do it.

Can Oil Leak From A Head Gasket On My 1993 Toyota Camry Top Ten Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory ?
Two Mechanics Looked At It: One Said It Was The Head Gasket The Other Said It Was A Valve.

oil leak from a Valve Cover is common on almost all cars. You get the gasket replaced and the oil leak stops.

however, a head gasket leak usually causes over heating, and car does not run very well. You will usually either have oil in coolant or coolant in the oil depending on what port the head gasket fails either a water port or oil port.

You would definitly have a major issue on the way the car runs and over heating if head gasket was bad.

good luck, I think from what you wrote you probably just have a valve cover gasket leaking.10 Best Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory

Whast The Difference Between Smog Check And Smog Test Best Ten Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory ?
Im New To Cali And I Need To Know The Difference Between The Smog Check And Smog Test And What One I Need

When you say smog test, I'm going to assume you mean "smog test only" center... A Smog Test Only center, as the name suggests, can only test vehicles and is not allowed to perform any repairs. A smog test only center has an obligation to insure a non-biased smog test. They are certified to inspect all DMV required vehicles.

And when you say "smog check"... you mean a regular smog check center, also known as the "smog check & repair" center. Note, a regular smog check & repair center is not allowed to inspect a vehicle designated to go to a "test only center". 10 Best Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory

It is very important that you refer to your DMV paperwork. Locate the smog check requirement section and find our if they are asking for a "smog check" or "smog test only" inspection. From there you can determine which way to go.

We highly recommend you learn more about the different station types as well as search for great money saving smog check coupons at http://www.smogtips.com.

We know this is all a bit confusing. Feel free to email one of our technicians for clarity. Most Popular Auto Garage Near Me in Bullhead City Directory

2007 Toyota Camry?
At 15,000 Miles The Car Needs A New Head Gasket The Blew. A New Water Pump. A New Transmission That Blew Up At 8,000 Miles. New Engine Mounts. New Radiator Hoses. New Wheel Bearings On The Rear. New Rack And Pinion. New Catalytic Converter. New Door Hinge On Passengers Side. And A New O2 Sensor. Is This Normal? I Baby This Car. Is This Car A Toyota Lemon?

That is without question a "Lemen." Toyotas are practically bulletproof, and what you stated above is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. Take it elsewhere for a second opinion (i know simple diagnostics tests arent exactly cheap, but it will cost more if you just have all that done at THAT dealership). Dealership service departments are notorious for taking advantage of customers when it comes to vehicle service... theres always "something else" that needs to be done, fixed, or replaced than what you had anticipated. They're often referred to as "stealerships." If you find that the diagnostics were legitimate, then take it up with the dealership you purchased the car from (im hoping you're the original owner and/or that you've at least been obiding by the vehicles warranty guidelines and conditions). If i recall correctly the vehicle has to be in for unexpected service on three seperate occasions before a year is up, or before the first scheduled maintenence. Im not sure how that would apply if all was addressed during one service visit. But to answer your question, in the opinion of any honest man, YES this car is a lemen. Be prepared to fight for your rights as a consumer, they will try to haggle you till you give up... Take it up with toyota if the dealer doesnt play fair... Im saying all this to you with confidence i grew up in a car dealership practically. its in the family... I wish you all the luck, you deserve a brand new car.. fight for it but dont wait too long, i believe theres a deadline.. all the best

Put New Head Gaskets On A Toyota Camry V6 Engine. It Started Pumping Water Out The Overflow. What Causing This?
My Son Over Heated His Toyota Camry V6 Engine. It Got So Hot It Blew The Top Radiator Hose. I Put New Head Gaskets On The Car And It Ran Good. I Flushed The Radiator And The Block And The Heater. It Started Right Up And Sounded Good. After A Few Minutes It Started Pumping Water Out Of The Over Flow. I Turn The Engine Off And I Hear The Water Boiling And It Keeps Pumping Water Out Until The Boiling Stops. I Took The Thermostat Out And It Still Pumps Out Water. What Could Be Causing That?

sorry,
sounds like a head gasket leak to the water jacket. did you have the decks checked for warpage? possible cracked head. correct gasket?
also, some toy engine you shouldn't re-use head bolts.
why did it get hot? what caused the original over heating issue? moot point really. but cover all bases.

no vehicle info other than it's a toy, and a V6 so...... that won't change the diagnosis, just tells me if the head bolts can be re-used or not.

Car Repair.. Help!!!!!!!!!!!1111?
My Car Is A 1995 Saturn Sl1 With 194,000 Miles On It We Got In A Wreck Not Our Fault. And We Have To Take It To Their Insurace Company To Look At It. We Had Someone Look At It For Us To And Its Going To Cost About 1,393.06 To Get Fixed.. Will It Be Totaled? If It Is How Much Might We Get Out Of The Car :( Thank For Your Help

I'm afraid I have no good answers for you... at 194,000 miles and 1995, you could say you've got your money's worth out of this vehicle and, although you may have been paying for collision insurance, the insurance company is going to say this too.

I did look up the vehicles worth on Kelley Blue Book assuming it was pretty much fully loaded and has an automatic transmission... the private party value in good condition was only $1500.00.

So, I would say it's pretty much a sure thing that the insurance company, whether yours or theirs, is going to total the vehicle. It's just not worth repairing when it costs more to repair than to buy another one in the same condition.

However, unless you live in a no-fault insurance state, the full amount of it's replacement cost should be paid to you. Your deduction amount shouldn't come into play using their insurance company and you should be able to get more than the value of the car with a pain and suffering payment as well. After all, it was them that hit you! Now you are suffering because you don't have a usable vehicle anymore! In fact, you might have to get a rental car until the dust settles and you know what? They should pay for that too.

My son was in a collision that was not his fault and his airbag deployed. His car was totaled as well... The insurance company paid $3,000 in pain and suffering due to bruising from the beating the airbag and seat belt caused him. Oh, his car was worth a bit more than yours but only $6,000.

So... you want full replacement cost... You should expect the full $1500 for that. Any receipts you have that would show improvements to the car will add to that value, i.e. transmission overhaul, engine replacement etc. Small improvements don't add much if anything. I allowed for 50% of the new parts costs assuming depreciation and the insurance company bought it without a fight.

I asked many people how much they would accept to take a ride in a car traveling 50 mph and let it collide head-on to experience the seat belts and air bag... assuring they would walk away from the wreck like my son did... none would accept less than $3,000 and that's the figure I demanded from the insurance company. I told them I thought my figures were just and would be more than happy to show them to any judge should the insurance company decide to take me to court over it. Believe me, since it wasn't your fault, you might get even more in court and then the court costs etc... the insurance company would just assume avoid all that.

So... what do I expect YOU to get?

$1500 for the car
$3,000 for each person suffering from air bags & seat belts.

So... at least $4500.

Oh, and you can ask the insurance company how much they want to buy your wrecked car back once they pay you off... you would be surprised to find them wanting about $500 or less. Do it and then trade the vehicle in for more if you can. Otherwise let it go.

Sorry to hear of your plight but there just might be some light at the end of this tunnel!

My Husband Is Leaking Oil Into His Coolant, But No Radiator Leaks And Brand New Head Gasket...?
My Husband Drives An Older Toyota 4Runner. Lately, He Has Been Having A Problem With Getting Oil Into His Coolant. At The Shop, They Did A Full System Flush And Found Nothing. They Put Pressure On The Radiator And Found No Leaks. The Head Gaskets Are Fine. The Leak Is In Only One Direction ---≫ From The Engine To The Radiator (Which I Guess Doesn'T Make Any Sense, Because It Should Be Going Both Ways). Everyone Is Baffled By This Problem, Even The Mechanics, And Can'T Figure Out How He Is Getting Oil Into His Coolant Without Coolant Getting Into His Engine Or Leaking. Has Anyone Out There Had A Similar Problem And If So, What Was The Cause? Or Does Anyone Have Any Legitimate Ideas? He Just Replaced The Head Gasket...That Is Not The Problem! Professional Mechanics Have Looked At This Every Which Way And Can'T Figure It Out! Only Serious Answers Please!

Check to see what sort of oil is getting into cooling system. If engine oil the head is probaly warped and leaking from the oil supply to the valve train. The jap castings are machined green, that is straight out of foundry to machine shop and no time for weathering so they warp with time..Also check block for warpage while the head is off,if its warped you can fix that with draw filing.

Why Is There White Smoke Coming Out Of My Exhaust?
What Should I Do....Also If I Drive It For A Long Time A Little Bit Of White Smoke Would Come From Under My Hood When I'M Driving....I Have A 1993 Toyota Camry Xle V6...Also I Replaced My Coolant

well if you see a little white smoke from under the hood while driving, it's likely a lot as moving would dissipate it. a little (actual) white smoke you prolly wouldn't see when moving. along with the white smoke from the exhaust, be it even a little, is prolly a precursor to a total head gasket failure.

visual inspection of oil (does it look like chocolate milk on the dip stick), plug reading, and compression testing, would be in order. in that order. easiest to do first. though any order will do.
