What To Know About Auto Repair It can be a very stressful situation when worrying as to what company to decide on

Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory
for your auto repair, but provided that you know how to make the method it may be really simple. Every company will claim they have the best mechanics and present the smallest prices, but clearly that is incorrect. The easiest way to know that you are having the best repair to the lowest price would be to take the time to do your homework. The first step to locating the best company is to search for the reviews that have been left by past customers. Chances are that you have more mechanics in your area than you are able to count. It can be hard to select which companies to even can compare to others. Look for a site that provides the choice to see their reviews at the general star level. From there you must be able to get the top 10 companies in your area. You then should take the time to look at the reviews which have been left by their past clients. Recognize that there definitely will probably be negative reviews, regardless how good the organization is, although the vast majority needs to be positive. Search for negative reviews that share exactly the same issues, for example being forced to bring their vehicle in a short period of time because it actually had not been yet fixed. Any shop should e able to diagnose and repair a vehicle the very first time. From your initial set of 10 you will be able to narrow it down to 3 different firms that are the most effective. Then you can call each and ask should they be willing to give you a quote totally free. If they have made your best three list they should be over willing to accomplish this. That way you can determine what they think to become the problem along with the things they think it can cost. Upon having quotes from all 3 after that you can decide who to work with. It may be tempting to choose simply depending on the cost, but exactly how they treat you should also be regarded. Customer care is extremely important in relation to auto repair. If they are ready to explain everything for your needs and show you that they can feel that you have value then they are truly thinking about obtaining your business and keeping it. Think of every factor of your interaction prior to you making a determination about which mechanic you believe is advisable to service your automobile. Every auto mechanic will claim that they have the very best costs, from parts to service, but the reality is they all differ in lots of ways. Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory Take the time to investigate how others have felt about their service, what their costs are and how you personally felt once you visited their shop. This is certainly the simplest way to look for a quality auto repair center which will meet your needs and expectations.

Doing Your Own Car Repair?
In This Tough Economy Time, Is It Good To Do Your Own Car Repair Most Popular Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory ?

Let me start with a story. Several months ago a pipe burst under the main bathroom in our home. I decided I could approach this and repair the pipe and reroute it so that it no longer runs under the foundation of the house. 2 weeks into it and I had a huge hole in the wall where I decided to tap on to the hot water pipe. And we had no hot water in the house. I had also broken the vanity around the main bathroom sink. I finally called a plumber who came out and re routed the pipe through the attic in one day. He charged me $500. 10 Best Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory I then had to call a general contractor to come repair the hole in my wall and install a new vanity. Another $500. If I had called the plumber in the beginning I would have only spent $500 and had it repaired that day. And my wife would have been much happier.

The point of my story? I am a mechanic. Not a plumber. I did more damage to my home by not knowing what I was doing.

If the car you are talking about repairing is your main form of transportation, the family car so to speak, then no I would not attempt to learn how to repair my own car on that one. You could end up doing greater damage and costing yourself more money in the long run. And you could end up having a lot of down time. You want to keep your wife happy? LEAVE THE CAR ALONE! Trust me on this one.

If it is a secondary car, then I would certainly give it a shot if I wanted to learn how to fix cars.

I do see your point. When money is tight, we do all we can to save some dollars. Wandering into the unkown is not a good way to do it.

Can Oil Leak From A Head Gasket On My 1993 Toyota Camry Most Popular Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory ?
Two Mechanics Looked At It: One Said It Was The Head Gasket The Other Said It Was A Valve.

oil leak from a Valve Cover is common on almost all cars. You get the gasket replaced and the oil leak stops.

however, a head gasket leak usually causes over heating, and car does not run very well. You will usually either have oil in coolant or coolant in the oil depending on what port the head gasket fails either a water port or oil port.

You would definitly have a major issue on the way the car runs and over heating if head gasket was bad.

good luck, I think from what you wrote you probably just have a valve cover gasket leaking.Best Ten Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory

Whast The Difference Between Smog Check And Smog Test Most Popular Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory ?
Im New To Cali And I Need To Know The Difference Between The Smog Check And Smog Test And What One I Need

When you say smog test, I'm going to assume you mean "smog test only" center... A Smog Test Only center, as the name suggests, can only test vehicles and is not allowed to perform any repairs. A smog test only center has an obligation to insure a non-biased smog test. They are certified to inspect all DMV required vehicles.

And when you say "smog check"... you mean a regular smog check center, also known as the "smog check & repair" center. Note, a regular smog check & repair center is not allowed to inspect a vehicle designated to go to a "test only center". Most Popular Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory

It is very important that you refer to your DMV paperwork. Locate the smog check requirement section and find our if they are asking for a "smog check" or "smog test only" inspection. From there you can determine which way to go.

We highly recommend you learn more about the different station types as well as search for great money saving smog check coupons at http://www.smogtips.com.

We know this is all a bit confusing. Feel free to email one of our technicians for clarity. Most Popular Car Problems in Cottonwood Directory

What Is A Good Used Car To Buy In The $4,000 Range?
I Am Looking For A Car On Craigslist. I Need Something That Will Last Me A Long Time, And That Is Fuel Efficient. I Was Looking At The Vw Jetta Or Something Of That Sort. Maybe Even A Jeep Liberty, But Don'T Really Know Too Much About Cars, Help!

You can probably find a used mid-90s Toyota or Honda in that price range. My last 2 used vehicles were both Toyota trucks that had over 100k miles, but were well maintained. You can't go wrong with a Toyota Tacoma (4cyl- 22R Engine), 4Runner (4cyl- 22R Engine), Camry or Carolla; or a Honda Civic and Accord. These cars are built to last if they are well maintained. By well maintained, it should have regular oil changes and tune-ups and faulty parts replaced. Ideally, you'd want to look for something that has up to date maintenance records. I like to see that certain major repairs have been done recently such as the replacement of the timing belt, water pump and head gasket, engine or transmission. Replacement parts for older Toyota and Honda vehicles tends to be less expensive than European cars. They also tend to be more reliable than older American vehicles (GM, Ford, Jeep, etc..).

Given your price range, the majority of cars will be older and will most likely have required one or more of the aforementioned repairs in the last 5 years. Anyone one of them can be costly, so it's helpful to know if they have or have not been done. If they haven't been done, it would be a good idea to consult a mechanic to find out if any major repairs would need to be done soon. Having a trusted mechanic take a look at the vehicle before you purchase it could save you hundreds, possibly a few thousand dollars in unforeseen repair costs.

If you're going the Craigslist route, it's best to do your homework and be patient. Since just about anyone can sell a car on Craigslist, you can find yourself dealing with clueless, dubious and/or crazy sellers. Knowing what you want and what you're looking for will make your experience less frustrating and more efficient. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions and don't hesitate to walk away if the seller can't give you the information you need regarding the vehicle. You'll find many great "deals" on Craigslist, but the best ones take patience and persistence. It took me several months to find both of my last 2 vehicles, but it paid off!

It Is Common For A Toyota.?
I Have A 2001 Camry- 70,000 Miles And I Need To Replace The Head Gasket..Is It Common To Change The Gasket With Little Mileage And A Toyota.

Fairly common with Toyotas. I agree that you should have the shop that does the work have the heads pressure checked.

You should call the Toyo dealer and ask if there are any TSBs or recalls related to the cooling system of your exact model. Toyota may do the repair for free or a reduced amount.

Camp Pendleton Smog Check?
I Have Been Staying With Some Relatives Here Near Camp Pendleton For 2 Months While My Husband Is In Mos School. I Have Borrowed My Moms Car Which Is Registered In Washington State. I Have Been Told I Need A Car Pass To Get In And Out Of Cp, So Far I Have Gotten A Temporary Pass But Was Told I Need A Smog Test Done On This Car Its A 1992 Honda. Is It Mandatory To Have This Done With My Moms Car, Its Not Registered In My Name And Its Not My Car. Will I Even Be Able To Get It Smogged Tested When Its Not My Car? How Much Does It Cost, What Happens If It Does Not Pass? Money Is Tight And Hopefully It Passes. Any Information Will Be Helpful. I Appreciate It.

Sorry to tell you, but that is Marine Corps regs for California. All vehicles that that access a Marine Corps base are required to have a current smog inspection. It is possible that Washington state has a similiar requirement. Check with your mom to find out. If it does, have her send you the inspection report and present that at the vehicle registration office.

If Washington state does not require a smog inspection, you will need to get one to receive a base vehicle pass. Go by the Marine Corps Exchange service station located across the street from the main PX. They used to do the inspections. They can tell you the cost as can any of your friends who have a vehicle registered in California. It is more than $40. If the vehicle fails the inspection, the cost for repair can go as high as $1,000 or more since the inspection is focused on the catalytic converter/emission system.

Normally, all you have to do to enter a Marine Corps base is show your military issued ID and if questionned, tell the gate guard that the vehicle is borrowed from your mom and will be returning to Washington state where it is registered after your Temporary Duty (TDY) tour. This normally works for those who are TDY. Recommend get a copy of your husband's TDY orders to show if necessary.

Hopefully, this works for you. You are probably living off base. If so, make your trips on base infrequent to avoid the hassle at the gate. Go only when you need to.
