My 1995 Toyota 4Runner Lately Has Been Running Hot And It Seems When I Have My Heater On It Overheats And When Its Off, It Does Fine. The Coolant Level Always Seems To Drop, But There Arent Any Leaks And Its Not Blowing Out Of My Exhaust. I Heard It Could Be A Bad Thermostat And So I Went To Replace It, But There Was No Thermostat There In The First Place...I Used A Pan To Drain The Coolant Out When I Loosened Up The &Quot;Thermostats Compartment&Quot; And Replaced The Thermostat. Re-Added Coolant Till The Radiator Was Full And Tried Running My Truck. It Started Kind Of Rough And Turned Off... I Checked The Coolant Level And It Didnt Go Down Any. What Could Be My Problem?
its a 4runner and most of those were a 3liter(very few were 22R, and you didnt specify, so will assume a 6 cylinder) They did have waterpump leaks that would leak inside the timing cover and were hard to detect. But, my gut feeling and knowing V-6 runners is that it has a head gasket leak. The rough running after startup was a clue as was the unfound coolant loss. The engine will consume it in small quantities. Coolant in either #6 or #1 will cause the rough start til it burns off. Some more testing is needed to confirm my suspicion (block test with dye is one way) as it is potentially an expensive repair and you don't want to guess at it. A special test tool is installed at the radiator and filled with blue dye. If there is combustion gas present (as from a gasket leak) inside the radiator, the dye will turn yellow. If yor truck has super high miles (250k plus) it may be time to trade. ( the gasket may just be the start of major problems; oil usage-noise/rattles from worn pistons-etc) Get it checked and then decide the next action. Good Luck--T&T

incredibly reliable if taken care of. Theyll last over 200000 miles with basic repair and maintenance. BUT, only problem with toyota 3.0 v6 are the head gaskets. even then its not very common to have that problem, usually happens with heavy use like off orading and such. I got a 86 4runner with 2.4 22re with 170000 miles only had to replace starter,my dads got an 88 with over 220000 strong.

Sounds like a great job, but after a few years you realize it is a lot of work and not any fun. Ever hear of "cycle times", it is where the insurance company promises the repair in "x" amount of time and you must repair perfectly in that time or less.

And not every state does this anymore. And you do not want tho have an accident in a uninsured car you are trying to sell. Because now the state can yank your license for a year for uninsured accident, and it raises your insurance rates among other things, just trying to make up some extra bomeny can be a serious depressing problem

I Bought A Car From A Private Party And Didn'T Realize He Was Responsible For The Smog Certificate(By Law). My Car Will Not Pass Smog And I Was Referred To The State Referee Mechanic And He Told Me That The State Won'T Even Give Me A Waiver For The Next Two Years. My Car Cannot Be Repaired And I Need A New Engine. I Called The Seller And Told Him That He Was Reponsible For The Smog And He Said There Was Nothing He Could Do About It. The Agreement That I Signed Was An As Is, But The Calif Law Says He Is Responsible For The Smog. Does Anyone Know If This Will Hold Up In A Small Claims Court, Because The Seller Does Not Want To Give Me My Money Back, And I Have Already Paid Out On Repairs Even Before I Knew The Car Would Not Pass Smog.
