Car Overheated Now Stalls And Possible Knock?
I Just Bought A 96 Ford Contour, It Started Overheating Then The Lower Coolant Hose Blew Open, Instantly Cooled The Engine And Returned To Normal Operating Temperature, It Started Overheating A Few Hours Before That And Started Rattling And Stalled, I Parked It And Let It Cool. Now After Driving For A Bit It Starts Its Rattle And Wants To Stall, It Doesnt Overheat Anymore But It Rattles Really Bad Now And Stalls When I Stop. It Only Rattles At Idle And Under Acceleration, It Sounds Like A Four Cylinder Diesel Engine When It Rattles, Almost Like A Knock. I Cant Find Any Water Or Antifreeze In The Oil So Im Not Sure If The Headgasket Blew When It Overheated. Any Help Asap Would Be Greatly Appriciated As Im At A Friends Out Of Town Now. My Main Question Is Is My Engine Knocking Or The Low Coolant Causing The Rattle And Stall?

The rattle/knock might be a rod bearing. If the head gasket blows between a cylinder and the water jacket then you will have coolant mixing with the oil (which can be hard to detect), but you'll also have oil in the coolant (oil floats on water). Have a mechanic diagnose the knock and the head gasket, fix the cooling system problem. Auto parts store techs can help you find a good, local mechanic.

Question Regarding The Salary Of An Auto Mechanic?
We Had Lived In Tucson Arizona For A Short Time And My Husband Was Offered A Job As An Auto Detailer At A Dealership. At The Time He Did Not Take It Because We Were Returning Back To Mesa Arizona Because I Got A Promotion. My Husband Will Be Relocating Back To Tucson This Fall To Take A Position And Swears Up And Down That The Auto Detailers And That Dealership Make Between 80K To 100K A Year And That The Mechanics Make Anywhere Between 250K To 300K. I Told Him Go Ahead And Take The Job But He May Be Disappointed. These Salaries Seem Awfully High. Do Detailers And Mechanics Make This Much Money? This Is An Ongoing Argument And I Finally Told Him Ahead And Move But You May Be Moving Back In No Time.

Car Wont Pass Smog Test?
'M Looking Into Buying A 97 Chevy Blazer Its Non Salvaged, 194Xxx Miles. But It Doesn'T Pass The California Smog Test. Aside From The Fact That It Would Be Illegal To Drive, Does It Have Any Affects On The Performance Of The Vehicle? What Could Be The Problem That Causes It Not To Pass The Smog Test? How Could I Fix It? Is It Worth Buying For $900? Thanks People

In CA the only way a car can be sold without passing the smog test is for salvage value or parts.

All cars sold for normal use must have a smog test performed within the prior 90 days if I remember right.

No way to be sure what it would take to pass the smog test with that vehicle.

If it needs catalytic converter(s) the cost could be more than the price of the truck.

Should I Use Geico Auto Repair Xpress?
I Have A Bmw 328Xi Coupe 2008. I Was Hit By A Person Insured By Geico. It Was A Hit And Run But I Got The Plate Number And The Cops Found The Person And Placed Them At Fault Pretty Much. I Wanted To Know, Should I Go Through Geico Auto Repair Xpress Since They Offer Guarantee To Repair Car If Anything Happens In Future. Or Should I Just Go With My Own Body Shop And Go Through A Longer Process.

I wouldn't go through Geico auto repair Xpress. I have Geico, and i was hit a week after i got my brand new car. They sent me to a dealership in my area called Hoffman Auto Group (Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Lexus, auto body, etc) They were completely off with the paint matching, and stole my floor mats. I eventually got Geico to repaint the bumper and got my floor mats back, but i had to use a Ford Fusion rental car with 34k miles on it for a week and then an Impala with 55k miles on it for several days while my new car was in the shop. Not the best feeling. I got hit in the same place again in 2009 and brought it to my own body shop, and the paint match was perfect, and i saved $1k from Geico's payout. I would go to your trusted shop as they will fix anything down the road if they made a mistake as well

Hi, Car Seller Didn'T Provide Smog Certificate And The Car Failed Smog Test. ?
Hi, I Bought A 2002 Lancer From A Dealer. And He Didn'T Provide The Smog Pass Certificate, So I Tried Smog Test And The Car Failed. And Engine Service Light Suddenly Came On. I Think The Seller Turned Off The Light On Purpose When He Sold The Car. What Should I Do In This Situation?

This will depend on your State law.

If it requires all used cars sold to be able to pass the smog test then you have a valid complaint and should return to the dealer so they can fix the problem.

If no such law exist, your S.O.L. since all used cars are sold "As is".

Good luck.
