Doing Your Own Car Repair?
In This Tough Economy Time, Is It Good To Do Your Own Car Repair Best Ten Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory ?
Let me start with a story. Several months ago a pipe burst under the main bathroom in our home. I decided I could approach this and repair the pipe and reroute it so that it no longer runs under the foundation of the house. 2 weeks into it and I had a huge hole in the wall where I decided to tap on to the hot water pipe. And we had no hot water in the house. I had also broken the vanity around the main bathroom sink. I finally called a plumber who came out and re routed the pipe through the attic in one day. He charged me $500. Best Ten Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory I then had to call a general contractor to come repair the hole in my wall and install a new vanity. Another $500. If I had called the plumber in the beginning I would have only spent $500 and had it repaired that day. And my wife would have been much happier.
The point of my story? I am a mechanic. Not a plumber. I did more damage to my home by not knowing what I was doing.
If the car you are talking about repairing is your main form of transportation, the family car so to speak, then no I would not attempt to learn how to repair my own car on that one. You could end up doing greater damage and costing yourself more money in the long run. And you could end up having a lot of down time. You want to keep your wife happy? LEAVE THE CAR ALONE! Trust me on this one.
If it is a secondary car, then I would certainly give it a shot if I wanted to learn how to fix cars.
I do see your point. When money is tight, we do all we can to save some dollars. Wandering into the unkown is not a good way to do it.
Can Oil Leak From A Head Gasket On My 1993 Toyota Camry 10 Best Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory ?
Two Mechanics Looked At It: One Said It Was The Head Gasket The Other Said It Was A Valve.
oil leak from a Valve Cover is common on almost all cars. You get the gasket replaced and the oil leak stops.
however, a head gasket leak usually causes over heating, and car does not run very well. You will usually either have oil in coolant or coolant in the oil depending on what port the head gasket fails either a water port or oil port.
You would definitly have a major issue on the way the car runs and over heating if head gasket was bad.
good luck, I think from what you wrote you probably just have a valve cover gasket leaking.Best Ten Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory

Is It A Blown Head Gasket Or A Problem With The Water Pump Or Something Else?
So My '93 Toyota Camry Is Heating Up Very Badly, We Changed The Thermostat But That Didnt Help. Here Are The Symptoms.
1: When Changing The Oil We Found Water In It, Although The Oil Itself Wasn'T Milky It Was Very Thick
2: The Car Gets Very Hot And Then Drops Suddenly Especially If I Speed Up Or If I Change From Drive To Neutral
3: A Bit Of White Smoke Did Come Out When I Started It Yesterday But It Was Only A Little Bit And Stopped Quickly
4: It Seems To Be Losing Coolant And A Very Quick Rate
The Other Day I Was Stuck On The Freeway When It Got Hot And Redlined The First Time, I Tried To Get Off As Quickly As Possible But It Was Bumper To Bumper And I Wasnt Able To Get To The Side For A Good 10 Minutes Before I Could Shut The Car Off.

Whast The Difference Between Smog Check And Smog Test Best Ten Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory ?
Im New To Cali And I Need To Know The Difference Between The Smog Check And Smog Test And What One I Need
When you say smog test, I'm going to assume you mean "smog test only" center... A Smog Test Only center, as the name suggests, can only test vehicles and is not allowed to perform any repairs. A smog test only center has an obligation to insure a non-biased smog test. They are certified to inspect all DMV required vehicles.
And when you say "smog check"... you mean a regular smog check center, also known as the "smog check & repair" center. Note, a regular smog check & repair center is not allowed to inspect a vehicle designated to go to a "test only center". Best Ten Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory
It is very important that you refer to your DMV paperwork. Locate the smog check requirement section and find our if they are asking for a "smog check" or "smog test only" inspection. From there you can determine which way to go.
We highly recommend you learn more about the different station types as well as search for great money saving smog check coupons at http://www.smogtips.com.
We know this is all a bit confusing. Feel free to email one of our technicians for clarity. 10 Best Car Transmission in Lake Havasu Directory

Becoming An Automotive Mechanic?
I Heard Some Mechanics In Big Cities Such As Charlotte Nc, New York And La Can Make Big Money Based On Flat Rate Pay And Their Skill. I Am A C Tech. I Make 12.00 An Hour And I Am Progressing Very Fast. Honda Wants Me To Go Through Their Training Program While I Work. Could This Turn Out To Be A Solid Career? I See Many Negative Mechanics In Their 60'S All Pissed Off About Their Career Choice? How Do People Feel About Big Schools Such As Uti?
I Always Thought One Could Make Good Money If They Had The Right Skill.
all us mechanics in our 60's remember the good old days no computers.cars easy to work on and we made money back then. you can make money with the right training and a dealer who recognizes the person he has working for him. if they're willing to pay go for it. if don't think you're getting what you want then move to another dealer. you can make money. just depends on the dealer or independent garage
1995 Toyota 4Runner Sr5 2Wd Any Good?
Hello, Just Recently Bought A Toyota 4Runner Sr5 1995 And Currently Repairing The Head Gasket Problem But, I'Ve Been Reading Around Does The Acceleration Really Suck With This Car?? If It Does How Can I Make It Better Because I Like A Sensitive Gas Pedal Please Help :)
this is a good suv but like all suvs they suffer from slower accel due to its weight and gearing. if you would like a lil more accel then do the following,,, a cold air intake, open up the exaust, have the computer flashed and upgraded on the tuning, this here should increase the gas millage and power, there are other things like you know like cam, lightend flywheel, and better heads, sceince you already have the head off get you a nice head to go ontop, also mesure the distance of tdc to valve clearence, if you have room get a thinner gasket get one, this will increase your compression ratio a lil, about 5% if im right on a 1 hundreds change. with this you will have great power and accel with the suv, and it will sound great doing so,
Worth It Or Not? 1993 Toyota Camry?
I Have 1993 Toyota Camry Xle V6 With A Blown Head Gasket.
Now, I Don'T Really Have Any Knowledge About Cars So Bare With Me Here.
I Have Limited Means Of Money So I Have Decided That I Might Just Pay To Get It Fixed Instead Of Buying A New Car.
I Know There Is A Lot That Goes Into This Question, But I Probably Can'T Answer Whatever Questions You Have Because Of My Limited Knowledge Of Automobiles.
My Question Is,
Is It Worth It To Spend The Money To Get It Fixed? (Not Replace The Engine Just Fix The Head Gasket)
The Mechanic I Spoke With Said Something About It Might Burn A Lot Of Oil Even If I Get The Head Gasket Fixed. If That Problem Did Occur, Would It Be A Big Problem Or Is It Something A 23 Yr Old Female Could Deal With?
What Is A Price Range Of What It Should Cost To Fix It Including Labor? Yes I Know It Varies...
(I Don'T Want To Get Too Ripped Off)
I Don'T Know If This Info Helps But Here It Is Anyways:
-The Car Has 211685 Miles On It.
-I Wouldn'T Be Driving The Car A Lot (Just For Errands Ect)
-The Car Starts And Drives, But Blows White Smoke Out Of The Tail Pipe.
-When The Car Starts There Are No Weird Noises. Actually, There Is Barely Any Noise At All.
-We Had The Transmission Replaced About A Year Ago And The Mechanic Said The Engine Was In Great Shape.
(I'M Unsure About Now Since The Gasket Is Crappy)
-The Only Problem I Have Had With The Car Was The Transmission, But That'S Another Story.
-It Has Over Heated Twice Before.
(Hey, First Car Now....Come On!)
-The Mechanic Quoted Something Along The Lines Of 1,800 (Depending On The Factors) And 3,000 To Replace The Engine. (Which Is Definitely Not In My Price Range And I Bought The Car For A Little Over That Price!!)
If You All Have Any Other Ideas I'M Open To Hear Them. I'M Really In A Pickle Right Now And This Is The Only Game Plan I Can Think Of At The Moment.
Thanks For Your Time And Your Answers!
Is the car burning oil now? What condition is the rest of the car in, you stated you replaced the transmission if it was new or remanufactured that's one less thing you have to worry about replacing again.Does the quote you received include replacing the timing belt and water pump. If the car isn't driven much have you considered trying a sealer like blue devil to get you by till ready to purchase a new vehicle. I guess the answer is if the car is worth it to you and the quote for the head gasket job doesn't sound too far off depending whats included.
93 Toyota 4Runner Blowing White Smoke?
Hi Guys I Was Wondering If Anybody Could Help!
I Have A 93 Toyota 4Runner V6 2 Wd I Was Driving Back From The Store And I Started To Feel It Was Running Rough, It Got A Little Worse , When I Got Home And Stop For A While , I Tried To Started Again And It Felt Like The Engine Was Stuck, It Wont Turn, I Rocked The Truck Back And Forth And It Started Back Up But Blowing A Fair Amount Of Steam Not Crazy But Like In The Mornings When U Start It Up, Check The Oil Deep Stick And Its Clean No Sign Of Water, It Didnt Over Heat Or Anything! When The Engine Starts Sounds Fine No Metal Noise, Just The Little Missed Fire
Anybody Has An Idea??
Thanks In Advance
if the gasket is leaking from the water jacket to the chamber, which is what i suspect, the oil won't get milky. unless you keep driving it. then the whole gasket will go and likely warp heads/decks.
so don't use that as an indicator.
get a compression test done. or pull a plug and check for water foul. don't wait. this does not have passages through the intake. so only thing it could be is a head gasket. getting it dealt with ASAP is key to less collateral damage.
one would also look at a timing belt replacement as well as a water pump at this time. needed or not.
do run your vin by a toy dealer. if this was missed in regards to the gasket recall, *and* it had an extended drive train warranty, you *maybe* within the window for free *parts*. labor, at this point will prolly be on you. mine just expired. yours *maybe* still app. slim. but a chance non the less.
Is $3000 Enough To Fix My Car?
I Live In Ventura, Ca And My Engine Recently Seized On My 95 Jeep Cherokee Due To An Oil Leak. Is $3000 Enough To Fully Repair The Car, Talkin New Engine Installed And Ready For Me To Drive Out Of There After Dropping That Much Cash?
Should be plenty. Just make sure you take it to a licensed shop. Maybe check with your friends and take it to someone that has always treated them right. There are shady mechanics out their. Also don't mention the amount of money you have up front. Let them give you the options and pricing first. Options being total rebuild, short block if heads aren't damaged" just the lower block crank and pistons", long block " the whole engine except carburetor and i believe intake" or a used low mileage motor. If you go with used low mileage make sure you get some proof of low mileage. Yes i've been through all situations some bad some ended up good just take time and decide. Go with gut instinct on mechanic. Usually it will never fail you.
