I had a 87 with a 2.9 and a 5 speed. It was great. Went through mud. The electric lockouts sucked but just convert them to manual locking hubs. The 2.9 is bulletproof accept the head. They had a problem with leaky valve cover gaskets but no biggie.
If it has the slip yoke rear driveshaft (looks like a CV shaft) they suck but you can get a regular U joint shaft to make it stronger. No biggie. I loved mine and took a pounding.

It'S Not The Water Pump Itself Seeing As I Replaced It Just Today And I Still Have A &Quot;Fountain&Quot; Of Coolant Coming Out From Behind The Pump. The Leak Is Located About A Inch Behind Where The Pump Actually Mounts On And Someone Said It Might Be A Head Gasket Leak. Can Anyone Confirm Or Offer Another Opinion On The Matter?

Actually This Isn'T Really A Cooling Problem, More Like A Coolant Problem. Under Normal Operating Temperature My Radiator Pukes About A Gallon Of Anti Freeze If I Get On The Gas. I Have Replaced The Following To Try And Fix This. Water Pump, And Backing Plate, Thermostat (With A 180), And All Hoses. Can Anyone Point Me In The Right Direction Here? I Was Told When I Rebuilt My Engine I May Have Put The Heads On The Wrong Sides And This Could Be Partially Blocking Water Jackets, I Really Do Not Want To Take My Engine Apart Again So Any Information Would Be Nice. Oh And The Engine Is A Built Up 429 Thunderjet With A Pretty Rank Cam And .30 Over Pistons.
