Estimation For Car Rust Repair Best Ten Audi Repair in Prescott Directory?
I Have A 1993 Dodge Intrepid. The Lower Door Skin On Both Side Has Some Rust Pretty Bad. Could You Guys Give Me A Range For The Cost Of Fixing This Problem. I Plan To Go To The Body Shop Cuz I Dont Know If I'm Able To Do It Myself. I Live Up North, And It Snows A Lot Here. I Gotta Think About Fixing This Car Before The Winter Comes. Also, Any Suggestion On The Rust Problem, I'd Be Appreciated Much. I'm Very New To Cars Generally.
Thanks In Advance.
Before you considering repairing cosmetic rust, you should have the underside of the car inspected to be sure there is no rust that would adversly affect other areas like floorboards.
As far as repairing rust, it's not worth it unless you intend to move out of the rust-belt. Top Ten Audi Repair in Prescott Directory
I worked with a guy in Long Beach, CA who repaired rust properly, which entails cutting out the rusted area and welding in an entirely new piece of sheet metal. He only repaired high end cars like '55 T Birds and Porsche Speedsters. If you asked him to repair the rust on your '93 Dodge, he would have counseled you against the idea.
Because the new sheet metal was welded in, it's not protected from rusting out again because it cannot be rust-proofed on the inner side. It rusts out even faster than the original metal did the first time.
The cheap way to repair rust is to bash in the rusted edge, mig in some metal in the general shape and bondo it over. This kind of repair leaves you with a real mess when the rusted metal that wasn't removed continues to rust out. Top Ten Audi Repair in Prescott Directory
Generally speaking, people who have lived their whole life in the rust belt have their new cars undercoated, drive their older car in the winter and spring, and get more years out of the new car by only driving it in summer & fall and garaging it in inclement weather.
If you really want to go bargain basement, you can get some stainless steel tape at Pep Boys and apply it to the rust on your doors. But it won't look great.
I Have A 1999 Ford Contour...10 Best Audi Repair in Prescott Directory?
I Am Having Some Mechanical Issues With My 1999 Ford Contour. I Was Driving To Work The Other Day And All Of A Sudden My Radiator Gauge, Battery Gauge And Oil Gauge All Came On (Which Has Never Happened Before). My Car Was Overheated And Out Of Oil (Which I Had Just Put A Quart Of Oil In A Few Days Earlier). When I Got To My Job (Barely Got There) My Car &Quot;Quit&Quot; On Me. But To Back Up Alittle The Symptoms It Was Having Was It Was &Quot;Ticking&Quot; And &Quot;Bogging Out&Quot; As I Was Driving. I Let My Car Sit For An Hour To Cool Down And Went To Check It Out. It Was Full Of Antifreeze But Barely Had Oil In It. Just A Tad Bit On The End Of The Dipstick. I Ended Up Putting In 2 Quarts Of Oil (Thinking It Might Of Been Just That). When I First Got To Work I Opened Hood And It Was Smoking From Engine Not The Radiator, By The Way. Anyhow I Left Work (Having To Travel 23 Miles To My Home) And Just Maybe 2 Miles (Or Less) My Car Did The Same Thing To Me. Ok So Here Comes The Question For You...What Do You Think It Could Be? My Mother Says Thermostat Or Vaccum Leak To Motor Or I Might Have A Blown Head Gasket? What Do You Think? I Am Having It Taken To Mechanic On Monday To Have It Put On The &Quot;Machine&Quot; To See What Is Wrong But My Car Has 160,000 Miles On It And I Really Do Not Want To Put Anymore Money In It. I Just Spent $600 On Brakes, Struts, And Miscellaneous Things. So Could You Give Me Ideas Of What You Might Think It Is?? Please!! Thank You So Much Most Popular Audi Repair in Prescott Directory !
The ticking sound is caused by the lifters lacking oil. Some engines will shut down as self preservation when the oil pressure falls too low. You have a large oil leak. It could be worn piston rings or the PCV valve is faulty. 10 Best Audi Repair in Prescott Directory
What Does It Cost To Repair A Blown Head Gasket?
I Blew A Head Gasket In My Engine, Is There Any Other Alternative For Fixing This Without Replacing The Gasket Most Popular Audi Repair in Prescott Directory.
I have never seen so many questions about blown head gaskets. I have never had that problem nor run into it, and I got cars that date in the 50's and also got diesels(which must have 400 PSI+)
Gas cars new run 160 PSI. And compression goes down the longer you drive the car(engine wear)
You can't replace the head gasket unless you have a "torque wrench" and you know the torque and the tightening "pattern".
So, if you did it before by guesswork, guess you gotta do it again.(and again) 10 Best Audi Repair in Prescott Directory
Once you compress a head gasket that is it for that gasket. There is no other option. Top Ten Audi Repair in Prescott Directory
I Lost My Smog Check Certificate?
I Need To Do My Smog Check(State Of California), And I Have Lost The Certificate, What Should I? Can I Go And Do The Test Without Certificate Top Ten Audi Repair in Prescott Directory?
You get the certificate AFTER the test, not before. If you lose the certificate showing your car passed smog, the DMV has it in their computer and so would Triple A. It's no problem.
If you lost the DMV paperwork they send you in the mail to get your smog, it doesn't matter either. Just tell whatever shop you go to you need a smog. They only ask for it to scan the VIN number, which is a lot faster than typing 17 numbers.

Timing On A 99 Ford Contour Best Ten Audi Repair in Prescott Directory?
I Am Having Issues With My 99 Ford Contour. We Have Replaced The Timing Belt, Head Gasket, And Had The Head Resurfaced And Valve Job Done. My Husband Has Set The Timing And To His Knowledge It Is Top Dead Center. The Problem Is That It Still Will Not Start. Everyone I Talk To Says That It Is The Timing That Is Still Off. If There Anything Else That Would Cause It Not To Start Or Is The Timing Still Not Right?
Both the crank and cam have to be at TDC - and depending on the vehicle it is possible to get it 180 degrees out of time. I always mark mine and am extremely careful not to move anything if at all possible).
When the timing belt tensioner is released it can often knock the system out of time - this can make it necessary to set it to slightly to one side or the other from TDC so that when it is released that it will pop up on TDC.
Since a lot of stuff had to be taken off the engine to take the head off for resurfacing and gasket replacement, it might be as simple as the crank or cam position sensor not being all the way plugged in (it is also easy to accidentally loosen a wire if you aren't careful unplugging various connectors). 10 Best Audi Repair in Prescott Directory
I've been in exactly that position a few times - take it slow and check everything. It might not hurt to try giving the cam a 180 degree spin and trying it again just in case.
Head Gasket For A Toyota Camry?
I Have A '92 Toyota Camry That Needs A New Head Gasket.
How Much Would The Head Gasket Cost, And How Much Would Installation Cost? Just Wanna Know So I Wont Get Overcharged.
My Friend Told Me That Installation Would Be More Than A Grand. Is That Right? He Said Its Cuz Its Really Difficult To Get To The Gasket.
The gasket itself is really cheap compared to the install cost, probably around 50-100 bucks
I wouldnt pay ANY MORE than 1000 bucks for the install. Shop and/or call around to find a better price. I got my head gasket replaced for only 600 bucks which i hear was a pretty good price. If you know someone that is really good with cars or even a mechanic willing to do it off the clock you could probably get it done for even less.
Tried Patching A Hole In The Filler Neck On The Radiator. Plus Fluid Shoots Out Of Cap .?
I Have A 1995 Toyota Camry. First I Thought It Was The Head Gasket. But There Has Not Been Any Symptoms Of A Bad Head Gasket. Because Of The Problems With The Kneck, And Cap, Would That Cause The Overheating? Therefore Causing An Air Leak In The System?
Thanks For The Help Anyone Can Give Me.
Any part that allows you to lose fluid can cause overheating.Change your thermostat and cap, and patch or replace the filler neck.
If that doesn't work, have a compression test and/or radiator pressure test run.
1996 Toyota Camry Keeps Overheating Very Badly?
I Have A 1996 Toyota Camry And It Started Overheating One Day...Well My Dad Thought It Might Be The Water Pump So I Bought A Water Pump And When My Dad Went To Put It On He Discovered This Wasn'T The Problem.
Well It Didn'T Overheat For A While And Then It Started Again....And It Just Did It On Occasion, But Now It'S Getting Worse. I Can'T Even Drive For 45 Minutes Without My Car Overheating And Me Having To Put More Antifreeze Or Water In The Radiator.
It Also Has Trouble Starting From Time To Time....It'Ll Drive Fine And Then When I Go To Start It Again It Won'T Start For Like Ten Minutes.
I'M Going To Eventually Take It To A Mechanic, But That Takes Money Which I Don'T Have A Lot Of...Just Wanted To Get Some Opinions On Here First.
put some peppermint oil in the radiator a little bit. drive it for 30 minutes if you smell the peppermint coming out of the exhaust you have a blown head gasket leaking into your valves. it is being cooked and exits thru your exhaust. if you oil looks like chocolate milk then its going into your crankcase.you could try putting black pepper in your radiator. if that does not work with the engine cold, crack an egg into your radiator and run for 30 minutes. i know this sounds crazy but i have used pepper to plug a leak in my radiator and it held for over 3 years until i sold the car and the kid who bought had it 2 years. the egg trick is for a cracked block but it might work. you also for under 10 bucks and 2 bolts should change the thermostat, which i normally do when i change the waterpump.
1995 Ford Contour Won'T Start?
Okay, I Have A 95 Ford Contour I Have Been Working On For A Week Now. This Is The Second Head Gasket I Have Done. The First One Was Done About 11 Months Ago. Had The Head Planed, New Head Gasket Set Put In, And The Car Ran Great For About 4 Months, Then The Head Gasket Went Out Again. Cylinders 3 And 4 Filled Up With Water, So I Removed The Head, Cleaned The Surfaces Again, And Reinstalled A New Gasket With Some Copper Spray (To Help Seal) And Now It Won'T Start. It Turns Over Fine. Seems Almost Like It'S Overloading With Fuel. I Have Checked The Fuel Pressure Which Is Fine, It Has Good Spark, Plugs Are Wet With Fuel, Compression Is Low But I Can Only Test With A Cold Engine. Compression Was Between 65 And 80 Psi (Which I Imagine Will Go Up With A Warm Motor) And Timing Is Dead On. Timing Was Done With The Cam Alignment Bar And The Second Timing Mark On The Damper. (Where It Was Aligned Last Time Too.) I Also Checked The Codes From The Computer, The Only Codes It Threw Were &Quot;Egr Voltage Lower Than Expected&Quot; ( Which Is Because It Is Cold I Bet) And &Quot;Secondary Fuel Pump Circuit Failure&Quot; (Which May Be Because It Won'T Start.) I Then Loosened The Exhaust Flange Thinking Maybe It Was A Clogged Catalytic Converter, But To No Avail. The 1/4 Tank Of Gas Smelled Pretty Bad, So I Added Another 1/4 Of Good Gas To Hopefully Help It Start, But Nothing! Any Help On This Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
The compression of 65 to 80 is very low indeed, and I suspect you might already have a warped head and blown gasket between cylinders, not to the water jacket.
Edit: Regarding your compression check.
They should be done with all plugs removed as you say, but the throttle position really makes no difference.
Now, it still can be a blown gasket and still show compression if the break is between cylinders, where they both contribute to the final reading.
It is also possible, although very rare, that the injectors are not pulsing, but allowing a constant flow of fuel to enter the system, a condition I have only seen twice, which results in flooding.
Also, I have to agree with the answer of 144289 where the valve timing could be off, not the ignitoin but valve timing, as the compression as stated before seems low, very low.
One other possible cause, it he cylinders filled up with water, and you tried to start it, you just may have broken the head of the piston or rings, or bent the valve stems.
What Do You Think It Will Cost To Replace A Head Gasket On A Toyota Camry 1997?
I Haven'T Got An Estimate Yet, But The Car Has 280K Miles On It. The Hour Rate At The Shop Is 100 $ And Hour. It Is A 4 Cylander. Thanks
Well a new gasket set would be appoximately $100-150. Depending on who is doing it it could take anywhere from 2-6 hours. So probably looking at around $350-700.
Not Saying This Is True About All Mechanics But Some Places I Go To It Seems Like They Mess Up Something On Your Car So You Will Have To Come Back And Get It Fixed. Is This Possible? I Need A Real Honest Mechanic Cause I'M Tired Of These Things Happening.
There are crooks in every line of work but many mechanics try to be fairly honest because bad word of mouth can kill their business, especially if it gets out locally that they're being dishonest.
I say that because the key to finding a good mechanic is also often by asking others. Word of mouth is a good way to find out who's HONEST and who does the best work just as it's a good way to weed out the shady mechanics.
It's also important to keep in mind that cars often DO have more than one problem brewing at a time. Most people treat their cars like disposable appliances - they wait until something breaks before paying any attention to anything instead of doing preventative maintenance to replace things with a known lifespan before that lifespan is exceeded. As a result, you might have more things wrong (or about to go wrong) than just the specific problem you brought the car in to fix. Just because something else might be wrong too (or fails shortly thereafter) doesn't necessarily mean the mechanic is CREATING problems. Some mechanics DO take advantage of customers, but the same could be said about some people in any other line of work too.
