You have to keep up with ever changing demands, especially electronics, transmission, engines and drive-ability. You cannot afford to fall behind; if you do then you won't be making any money.
Right now it is bad time to become automotive technician.Nobody is making money. The economy isn’t that good and many people cannot afford to have their vehicles repaired.
There are few good Technical Schools but they aren’t worth a penny because I’ve seen student graduates from them and ‘expect” to make more than 18 dollars an hour, unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. You have to start from the bottom and work your way up.
I've also seen them excel in tests and quizzes but failed miserably when it comes to fix the vehicles. 10 Best Fix Car in Sedona Directory
On top of that, many dealerships preferred technician that already has manufacture trainings, it is a lot more than basic certifications.
If you're GM certified tech, then good luck finding any job beside GM dealership. Ford won't hire you, Dodge won't hire you, and the list goes on and on or you can find a job in auto repair shop but most of them don't give you good pay and benefits.
Nowadays, good technicians are hard to find because most inexperience techs are just parts replacer, they really don't take their time and diagnosis any vehicle properly. Best Ten Fix Car in Sedona Directory
Example, Oxygen sensor codes, 99% of them [including internet expert] would simply replace oxygen sensor.
Good tech will interpret the code description and find out why and then fixed the problem.
Bottom line, good technician can easily make over 50k a year that because this particular tech has the will and motivation to keep up ever changing automotive industry.
If you have that attitude then go for it otherwise seek different job.

Fyi,The Dmv Has Updated The Testing Machine.Don'T Be Shocked If Your Car Fails Now If It'S '96 Or Newer. Also,For The People From Cali,This Is Nevada,Not California. The Whole &Quot; No Pass-No Pay&Quot; Thing Isn'T Here,If You Want That,Go Back To Cali.

Do Yourself A Favor And Ask The Tech Before The Test His/Her Opinion About Your Vehicle. And If It Fails,Pay The Price And Stop Crying.
I too live in Vegas; Even though we have a smog testing requirement, I frequently see vehicles on the roads that emit CLOUDS of exhaust smoke... It's almost like they are the mosquito fogging truck - and we don't even have many mosquitos!
Here's another question: Why aren't these obvious smog testing scofflaws pulled over and cited? How do they get current registration stickers if they smoke so bad?
White Smoke Coming Out Of Exhaust?
Ok I Have A 1979 Ford Bronco With A 351M, Carburated, Heres The Problem It Started About A Month Ago I Started To Get This White Smoke Coming Out Of The Exhaust, I Replaced All The Gaskets And Seals With A Master Engine Rebuild Kit, There Are No Cracks In The Heads Or Block, And I Put New Cylinder Sleeves, I Basiclly Rebuilt The Whole Block, But The White Smoke Keeps Coming Out, Any Ideas On The Problem, Ive Been A Mechanic For 6 Years Working For Ford, And Gm, And Ive Never Had This Problem Before After Doing All This To An Engine On Another Car Or Truck. And Im Basiclly Stuck On It. There Is No Coolant In The Oil Or Oil In The Coolant, So The Only Thing I Can Think Of Is Either An Exhaust Leak, Air To Fuel Mixture, Or A Bad Seal But Can Some One Give Me Some Insite On What I Might Be Over Looking.
hmm, i see you said you put in sleeves, did you reseat the valves and put in new guides while you were doing this rebuild? that's be my first guess, they say oil burns blue but ive seen it burn white, or it was white to me..lol. running lean perhaps...dirty/water in gas maybe? ideas.
Prices On A Smog Check?
Where Can I Get A Brake And Light Check/Inspection For A Salvaged Car?
Definitely look for coupons in your area for CA smog check. It depends what the lowest shop in your area wants to charge.
Once you find the lowest, just ask the mechanic where is a cheap place they suggest for the other checks you need.
Paying more for smog check does not get you any additional benefit, so just find the lowest price.
It is not the same as car maintenance, where paying more typically means you're getting a more competent shop with better mechanics who will perform the work more correctly.
Help! Private Party Faked Passing Smog Test?
I Recently Bought A Car That Passed The Smog Test With The Previous Owner(I Have The Smog Test Certificate), But After A Week Of Driving, The Engine Light Came On And Error Code P0440 Evap System Malfunction Came Up. I Have Not Redone Another Smog Check But I Know This Error Code Will Surely Make The Car Fail In Smog Test. I Don'T Know How They Masked It So That They Were Able To Pass The Smog Test. By California Law, Used Car Sellers Are Supposed To Repair The Car So That It Is Able To Pass The Smog Test Before Selling It. I'M Going To Have The Car Go Through The Smog Test Again And If It Does Fail, Please Give Me Advice On What Legal Action I Can Take.
If you have a valid smog certificate in your hands you don't need to go through the test again. The status of the car today is 100% irrelevant as long as you have a valid smog certificate in your hands that you can produce for the DMV.
All you need to do is present the certificate to the DMV for your registration and tags, pay your fees and get that car registered.
Of course none of that takes care of the real issue and that is the car needs to be repaired, but as far as the smog test and the registration and the DMV are concerned, as long as you have that valid certificate you are good to go.
If the Check Engine Light is ON the car will not pass the smog test. But that doesn't mean you were scammed. You bought a used car and used cars break down all the time at unexpected moments. Just because the CEL is ON doesn't mean they misrepresented the car or tried to intentionally mislead you. It might just means it's an old car.
