Estimation For Car Rust Repair Best Ten Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory?
I Have A 1993 Dodge Intrepid. The Lower Door Skin On Both Side Has Some Rust Pretty Bad. Could You Guys Give Me A Range For The Cost Of Fixing This Problem. I Plan To Go To The Body Shop Cuz I Dont Know If I'm Able To Do It Myself. I Live Up North, And It Snows A Lot Here. I Gotta Think About Fixing This Car Before The Winter Comes. Also, Any Suggestion On The Rust Problem, I'd Be Appreciated Much. I'm Very New To Cars Generally.
Thanks In Advance.
Before you considering repairing cosmetic rust, you should have the underside of the car inspected to be sure there is no rust that would adversly affect other areas like floorboards.
As far as repairing rust, it's not worth it unless you intend to move out of the rust-belt. Most Popular Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory
I worked with a guy in Long Beach, CA who repaired rust properly, which entails cutting out the rusted area and welding in an entirely new piece of sheet metal. He only repaired high end cars like '55 T Birds and Porsche Speedsters. If you asked him to repair the rust on your '93 Dodge, he would have counseled you against the idea.
Because the new sheet metal was welded in, it's not protected from rusting out again because it cannot be rust-proofed on the inner side. It rusts out even faster than the original metal did the first time.
The cheap way to repair rust is to bash in the rusted edge, mig in some metal in the general shape and bondo it over. This kind of repair leaves you with a real mess when the rusted metal that wasn't removed continues to rust out. 10 Best Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory
Generally speaking, people who have lived their whole life in the rust belt have their new cars undercoated, drive their older car in the winter and spring, and get more years out of the new car by only driving it in summer & fall and garaging it in inclement weather.
If you really want to go bargain basement, you can get some stainless steel tape at Pep Boys and apply it to the rust on your doors. But it won't look great.
I Have A 1999 Ford Contour...Best Ten Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory?
I Am Having Some Mechanical Issues With My 1999 Ford Contour. I Was Driving To Work The Other Day And All Of A Sudden My Radiator Gauge, Battery Gauge And Oil Gauge All Came On (Which Has Never Happened Before). My Car Was Overheated And Out Of Oil (Which I Had Just Put A Quart Of Oil In A Few Days Earlier). When I Got To My Job (Barely Got There) My Car &Quot;Quit&Quot; On Me. But To Back Up Alittle The Symptoms It Was Having Was It Was &Quot;Ticking&Quot; And &Quot;Bogging Out&Quot; As I Was Driving. I Let My Car Sit For An Hour To Cool Down And Went To Check It Out. It Was Full Of Antifreeze But Barely Had Oil In It. Just A Tad Bit On The End Of The Dipstick. I Ended Up Putting In 2 Quarts Of Oil (Thinking It Might Of Been Just That). When I First Got To Work I Opened Hood And It Was Smoking From Engine Not The Radiator, By The Way. Anyhow I Left Work (Having To Travel 23 Miles To My Home) And Just Maybe 2 Miles (Or Less) My Car Did The Same Thing To Me. Ok So Here Comes The Question For You...What Do You Think It Could Be? My Mother Says Thermostat Or Vaccum Leak To Motor Or I Might Have A Blown Head Gasket? What Do You Think? I Am Having It Taken To Mechanic On Monday To Have It Put On The &Quot;Machine&Quot; To See What Is Wrong But My Car Has 160,000 Miles On It And I Really Do Not Want To Put Anymore Money In It. I Just Spent $600 On Brakes, Struts, And Miscellaneous Things. So Could You Give Me Ideas Of What You Might Think It Is?? Please!! Thank You So Much Most Popular Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory !
The ticking sound is caused by the lifters lacking oil. Some engines will shut down as self preservation when the oil pressure falls too low. You have a large oil leak. It could be worn piston rings or the PCV valve is faulty. Best Ten Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory
What Does It Cost To Repair A Blown Head Gasket?
I Blew A Head Gasket In My Engine, Is There Any Other Alternative For Fixing This Without Replacing The Gasket Top Ten Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory.
I have never seen so many questions about blown head gaskets. I have never had that problem nor run into it, and I got cars that date in the 50's and also got diesels(which must have 400 PSI+)
Gas cars new run 160 PSI. And compression goes down the longer you drive the car(engine wear)
You can't replace the head gasket unless you have a "torque wrench" and you know the torque and the tightening "pattern".
So, if you did it before by guesswork, guess you gotta do it again.(and again) Top Ten Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory
Once you compress a head gasket that is it for that gasket. There is no other option. Top Ten Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory
I Lost My Smog Check Certificate?
I Need To Do My Smog Check(State Of California), And I Have Lost The Certificate, What Should I? Can I Go And Do The Test Without Certificate Most Popular Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory?
You get the certificate AFTER the test, not before. If you lose the certificate showing your car passed smog, the DMV has it in their computer and so would Triple A. It's no problem.
If you lost the DMV paperwork they send you in the mail to get your smog, it doesn't matter either. Just tell whatever shop you go to you need a smog. They only ask for it to scan the VIN number, which is a lot faster than typing 17 numbers.

Timing On A 99 Ford Contour Most Popular Foreign Auto Repair in Sedona Directory?
I Am Having Issues With My 99 Ford Contour. We Have Replaced The Timing Belt, Head Gasket, And Had The Head Resurfaced And Valve Job Done. My Husband Has Set The Timing And To His Knowledge It Is Top Dead Center. The Problem Is That It Still Will Not Start. Everyone I Talk To Says That It Is The Timing That Is Still Off. If There Anything Else That Would Cause It Not To Start Or Is The Timing Still Not Right?
Both the crank and cam have to be at TDC - and depending on the vehicle it is possible to get it 180 degrees out of time. I always mark mine and am extremely careful not to move anything if at all possible).
When the timing belt tensioner is released it can often knock the system out of time - this can make it necessary to set it to slightly to one side or the other from TDC so that when it is released that it will pop up on TDC.
Since a lot of stuff had to be taken off the engine to take the head off for resurfacing and gasket replacement, it might be as simple as the crank or cam position sensor not being all the way plugged in (it is also easy to accidentally loosen a wire if you aren't careful unplugging various connectors). I've been in exactly that position a few times - take it slow and check everything. It might not hurt to try giving the cam a 180 degree spin and trying it again just in case.
Is The 1992 Toyota 4Runner A Stick Shift Or An Automatic?
I'M Looking For My First Car, And A Lady Just Called Me Telling Me She Was Selling Her Old 4Runner. I Forgot To Ask If It Was Stick Shift Or Not Before I Hung Up, And It'S A Bit Late To Call Now. I'M Neither Interested Nor Willing To Learn To Drive Stick, So I'M Really Hoping It'S An Automatic ^^;
auto transmissions were an option on this platform.
if it's a 4x4, make sure they prove to you that works.
if it's a V6 engine, make sure the coolant is pristine. perfect. and find out when or if the timing belt has been changed. bad coolant denotes a compromised water pump. the timing belt should be changed every 90,000 miles. to change a belt or water pump on the V6 will cost 300-400 in labor alone. parts not included! so if this has a V6 and they can't give you any info on those two items, consider the cost of that maintenance when evaluating the price on this.
the difference between the I4 and V6 is the I4 is great for 4x4ing. but it has difficulty maintaining hwy speeds. especially with an automatic transmission. so if you do a lot of hwy commuting, prolly want the V6.
only thing wrong with the V6 is, well, nothing. except the outrageous cost of timing belt and water pump replacement. head gasket issues were addresses via a campaign set in motion by toy.
for *serious off roading*, it has been argued, and i agree, that the I4 is plenty capable and the V6 does not have the torque to off set the increased weight over the I4. plus, the V6 has a higher center of gravity that the I4.
owner 93 toy pu 4x4 V6 (sister platform to the runner) and 86 toy pu 4x4 I4.
Does Penn Foster Auto Repair Technician Program Really Work?
I See That Penn Foster Has An Auto Repair And Wondering If It Really Teaches You Auto Repair, I Know They Send You Books And That'S Half Of Learning Auto Repair, But They Do Send You Labs; But, What Lab Material Do They Send? What Is Your Experience With The Program?
Thank you for your interest in the Penn Foster Auto Repair Program.
Many people who have tried their hand at Auto Repair without any formal training have either quickly failed, or, have had slow success in their careers. Although hands-on training is certainly essential to learning this trade effectively, there are many reasons why you should consider completing a training program before attempting to go and work in the field.
For instance, a well-trained mechanic must first have knowledge in the many different systems of a vehicle, how they work together for proper auto operation; the correct assembly of the parts and their functions. Additionally, it is equally important to be properly trained in understanding the use of common tools and materials, and how to correctly, (and safely) remove and install auto components. Safety, again is a serious consideration not only to avoid personal injury, but for the final outcome of your job, since your customer, their families, for example, will be relying on what you have completed will be safe.
Having said this, as an Auto Mechanic you will be required to understand how to read diagrams, charts, and reference repair manuals. Since you will often be collaborating with a team and/or your manager, as well as your customer, you must be able to communicate with other people effectively to be sure that the proper diagnosis and plan of action to complete a repair is necessary.
You must also be able to have good problem solving skills. You will often be presented with unusual circumstances, where you have to rely on your math and problem solving skills to get the job done efficiently. Having the right training will benefit you in many ways and can set you apart from other entry-level auto repair positions, including opportunities to grow in the field, such as a supervisor or owner of your own business.
Penn Foster’s program is a thoroughly designed course of study that is carefully planned to train students with little or no prior auto repair knowledge, although commonly many of our students have some practical experience but no formal education. It may interest you that many of our students have been sponsored by their employers, such as General Motors, for example, to complete this training—the course has been looked upon very favorably as a worthwhile course. In addition, Penn Foster Auto Repair Students will receive 5 valuable National Institute for Automotive Service of Excellence (ASE) Certification Exam prep manuals that will help you prepare for ASE certification in 5 popular automotive disciplines!
Finally, one of the unique advantages of this program is the opportunity to participate in an optional hands-on externship or "Work Experience Option" at the end of the program. This provides you with a chance to shadow a professional and put your skills your have learned to use in real life repair jobs. The WOE will help you gain more confidence it what you have learned and will also provide you with a local reference for future employment!
As you can see from above the training overall will not only strengthen your knowledge and skills, but, will give you more confidence in your ability as a good mechanic. It will also demonstrate to any employer or potential customer that you have mastered the essential skills to do the job right—a very important factor in determining repeat business which will determine your success as a mechanic.
I hope this helps! We hope to see you as a student!

Valve Cover Gasket 2003 Toyota Camry Oil Leak?
My 2003 Camry With 140K Miles Is Having A Minor Oil Leak
I Checked The Oil Levels And For The Last Year (Last 4 Rounds) When I Moved And Changed Oil Where I Do, They Pour More Oil Than Is Necessary So I'M Going A Quart Over
I Recently Became Aware This Was Bad For The Engine And Might Be The Cause Of The Oil Leak
But My Mechanic Said The Valve Cover Gasket Needs To Be Repaired To Fix The Leak
Is That Right Or Does He Just Want My Money As The Camry Is Reliable So Shouldn'T The Valve Cover Gasket Not Go So Early?
There Is A Minor Oil Leak
And It'S Not The Head Gasket
Are You Sure Its' The Valve Cover Gasket
Or Is It Just Due To Too Much Oil
Should I Go Back To Where I Changed The Oil, Tell Them To Drain My Oil
And Warn That If They Overfill Again, I Will Sue/Charge Them?
Do They Do This To Discrminate Against Japanese Cars Since I Live In Michigan Where All Cars Are Domestic?
Should I First Drain The Oil, See If It'S Still Leaking And If No, Then I Won'T Need To Replace The Valve Cover Gasket But If It Still Leaks, Then I Ahve The Issue
Also, They Recommend A Spark Plug Change
Is That A Good Idea Or No?
if the rocker/cam cover leaks, then it needs a new gasket. but those are rubber type. not cork. sometimes simple re-torquing of the fasteners does it.
never over fill a sealed crank engine. any engine for that matter. but these have a return check valve in the oil pan that's spring loaded. so it normally operates under pressure. entire engine save the oil pan. over pressurization dealt with by the pcv system.
only drain the oil enough to get rid of excessive oil. or siphon it out via the dip stick tube if you have small enough tubing.
to check for leaks, simply wipe the suspect area clean. run her and keep tabs on where oil forms/leaks. tells one which gasket is the issue.
since it was over filled, the pcv system may need some cleaning.
if the engine is only leaking oil and not consuming it, the HEI ignition systems will let the plugs on these purdy much last the life of the vehicle. but at that mileage, it won't hurt to at least do a visual on them.
can't hep ya on the usb/charger stuff or how to deal with the quickie lube place. just a wrench here.
Toyota Overheats While Steady Driving. But When I Stop It Holds Hot. Then When I Hit The Gas And Go It Cools?
It Cools Down Fast When I Hit The Gas Then Heats Back Up. Ive Replaced The Thermostat Twice And Burped The System. I Just Replaced The Heads.
What year Toyota is it?
I'm not sure if you have an electrical fan or fan clutch.
You could have a short if it's electrical or if it's a fan clutch it need to be replaced. Check the play on the fan clutch if you have one.
Don't forget to check any belts for slipping or wear.
No Heat In My Ford Contour?
I Have A 98 Ford Contour. There Is No Heat Or Even Cold Air Coming Out Of The Vents When I Turn It On. I Try Every Fan Speed With Every Vent And Still Nothing. When I Do Change Which Vents The Air Should Come Out, I Here A Noise That I Can Only Desribed As Something Decrompressing Very Slowly. There Is Coolant In The Spot Where I Pour It In, Its Almost Full, I Haven'T Checked The Radiator Though. The Engine Heat Meter In The Car, Does Work I Think Because After Running The Car For A While The Needle Does Go Up But Still No Hot Air. When The Car Is Running The Big Fan In The Front Is Not Turning. What Could Be The Problem And How Do I Fix It.
The place you pour in anti-freeze is the overflow tank. You need to remove the radiator cap (when cool) and check out the level inside the radiator. If it is low or out, you have a bad leak in your coolant system that needs fixed immediately! Fill with coolant and pressurize (special tool required). The pressure tester has a gage on it and if the system looses pressure or you see a visible leak, it must be repaired. The leak could be internal (blown head gasket). If your level is OK, start the engine and let it warm up to where the gage is starting to move. With the heater controls on hot, feel the heater hoses going through the firewall to your heater core. If they are cold, you are not getting circulation or your thermostat is not closing. If one or both hoses are warm, then your problem is under dash. The noise you hear is the vent doors changing position which is good.
