How To Effectively Tackle The Initial Big Auto Repair Job Since you now realize how to change oil with your car, you may decide to take on
a bigger auto repair task. Oftentimes, car enthusiasts opt to have a DIY approach to car repair not merely being a hobby, but as a technique to economize. If your car keeps breaking down and you will barely pay for the parts to repair it, there's no method for you to pay for professional labor. Before you tackle a huge repair job, check out several of the expert consultancy below! Research First You can't take apart your car and want to input it back together again again if you don't know every one of the parts. Unless there is a unusual vehicle, it is simple to get ahold of the aftermarket manual for your make and model. These manuals are incredibly helpful in identifying the various components of your own car and how they can be come up with. Not to mention, there are simple to follow diagrams that will simplify the procedure. Aside from a physical manual, look to Internet forums for help. Odds are, somewhere on the planet, someone has recently asked the identical questions while you. If you are stuck or you will have a specific problem you can't wrap your mind around, post around the forums and request! Clear Workspace Area Focusing on an automobile takes much more space than some people would estimate. It may seem your garage has ample room, but you may be set for a rude surprise after you begin the repair. It's advisable to clear lots of space and set up a workspace without additional clutter to produce your task easier. Repair Needs Time It's vital that you know that auto repair takes a lot of time as well as perseverance. When the vehicle you wish to repair will be your only ride to operate, setup a carpool having a friend or find alternative transportation before you take your car out from commission. Expect to make plenty of trips into a hardware store and await your car parts into the future in, that may all devote some time. Keep Organized It's an easy task to take something apart, but it could become a nightmare to place it together again again. If you have lots of nuts, bolts, and washers you're removing from your car, it could feel like a hopeless task to keep in mind the way it all goes together. Prior to taking your car apart, require a photograph of how the various components look when properly installed. Once you've done that, label everything by using a white pen whilst keeping them properly sorted in both plastic baggies or old egg cartons. You may have a good amount of enthusiasm for auto repair, but be sure you do your research first, clear enough workspace, whilst keeping everything properly labeled. Many novice mechanics also have discovered that spending some time to generate a checklist will also help create a field of difference! In the event you stay organized and go step by step, it is possible to correctly repair the initial car.

Estimation For Car Rust Repair Most Popular Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory?
I Have A 1993 Dodge Intrepid. The Lower Door Skin On Both Side Has Some Rust Pretty Bad. Could You Guys Give Me A Range For The Cost Of Fixing This Problem. I Plan To Go To The Body Shop Cuz I Dont Know If I'm Able To Do It Myself. I Live Up North, And It Snows A Lot Here. I Gotta Think About Fixing This Car Before The Winter Comes. Also, Any Suggestion On The Rust Problem, I'd Be Appreciated Much. I'm Very New To Cars Generally.
Thanks In Advance.
Before you considering repairing cosmetic rust, you should have the underside of the car inspected to be sure there is no rust that would adversly affect other areas like floorboards.
As far as repairing rust, it's not worth it unless you intend to move out of the rust-belt. Best Ten Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory
I worked with a guy in Long Beach, CA who repaired rust properly, which entails cutting out the rusted area and welding in an entirely new piece of sheet metal. He only repaired high end cars like '55 T Birds and Porsche Speedsters. If you asked him to repair the rust on your '93 Dodge, he would have counseled you against the idea.
Because the new sheet metal was welded in, it's not protected from rusting out again because it cannot be rust-proofed on the inner side. It rusts out even faster than the original metal did the first time.
The cheap way to repair rust is to bash in the rusted edge, mig in some metal in the general shape and bondo it over. This kind of repair leaves you with a real mess when the rusted metal that wasn't removed continues to rust out. Top Ten Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory
Generally speaking, people who have lived their whole life in the rust belt have their new cars undercoated, drive their older car in the winter and spring, and get more years out of the new car by only driving it in summer & fall and garaging it in inclement weather.
If you really want to go bargain basement, you can get some stainless steel tape at Pep Boys and apply it to the rust on your doors. But it won't look great.
I Have A 1999 Ford Contour...10 Best Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory?
I Am Having Some Mechanical Issues With My 1999 Ford Contour. I Was Driving To Work The Other Day And All Of A Sudden My Radiator Gauge, Battery Gauge And Oil Gauge All Came On (Which Has Never Happened Before). My Car Was Overheated And Out Of Oil (Which I Had Just Put A Quart Of Oil In A Few Days Earlier). When I Got To My Job (Barely Got There) My Car &Quot;Quit&Quot; On Me. But To Back Up Alittle The Symptoms It Was Having Was It Was &Quot;Ticking&Quot; And &Quot;Bogging Out&Quot; As I Was Driving. I Let My Car Sit For An Hour To Cool Down And Went To Check It Out. It Was Full Of Antifreeze But Barely Had Oil In It. Just A Tad Bit On The End Of The Dipstick. I Ended Up Putting In 2 Quarts Of Oil (Thinking It Might Of Been Just That). When I First Got To Work I Opened Hood And It Was Smoking From Engine Not The Radiator, By The Way. Anyhow I Left Work (Having To Travel 23 Miles To My Home) And Just Maybe 2 Miles (Or Less) My Car Did The Same Thing To Me. Ok So Here Comes The Question For You...What Do You Think It Could Be? My Mother Says Thermostat Or Vaccum Leak To Motor Or I Might Have A Blown Head Gasket? What Do You Think? I Am Having It Taken To Mechanic On Monday To Have It Put On The &Quot;Machine&Quot; To See What Is Wrong But My Car Has 160,000 Miles On It And I Really Do Not Want To Put Anymore Money In It. I Just Spent $600 On Brakes, Struts, And Miscellaneous Things. So Could You Give Me Ideas Of What You Might Think It Is?? Please!! Thank You So Much Best Ten Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory !
The ticking sound is caused by the lifters lacking oil. Some engines will shut down as self preservation when the oil pressure falls too low. You have a large oil leak. It could be worn piston rings or the PCV valve is faulty. Best Ten Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory
What Does It Cost To Repair A Blown Head Gasket?
I Blew A Head Gasket In My Engine, Is There Any Other Alternative For Fixing This Without Replacing The Gasket Best Ten Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory.
I have never seen so many questions about blown head gaskets. I have never had that problem nor run into it, and I got cars that date in the 50's and also got diesels(which must have 400 PSI+)
Gas cars new run 160 PSI. And compression goes down the longer you drive the car(engine wear)
You can't replace the head gasket unless you have a "torque wrench" and you know the torque and the tightening "pattern".
So, if you did it before by guesswork, guess you gotta do it again.(and again) Best Ten Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory
Once you compress a head gasket that is it for that gasket. There is no other option. Most Popular Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory
I Lost My Smog Check Certificate?
I Need To Do My Smog Check(State Of California), And I Have Lost The Certificate, What Should I? Can I Go And Do The Test Without Certificate Most Popular Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory?
You get the certificate AFTER the test, not before. If you lose the certificate showing your car passed smog, the DMV has it in their computer and so would Triple A. It's no problem.
If you lost the DMV paperwork they send you in the mail to get your smog, it doesn't matter either. Just tell whatever shop you go to you need a smog. They only ask for it to scan the VIN number, which is a lot faster than typing 17 numbers.

Timing On A 99 Ford Contour Most Popular Auto Glass Repair in Show Low Directory?
I Am Having Issues With My 99 Ford Contour. We Have Replaced The Timing Belt, Head Gasket, And Had The Head Resurfaced And Valve Job Done. My Husband Has Set The Timing And To His Knowledge It Is Top Dead Center. The Problem Is That It Still Will Not Start. Everyone I Talk To Says That It Is The Timing That Is Still Off. If There Anything Else That Would Cause It Not To Start Or Is The Timing Still Not Right?
Both the crank and cam have to be at TDC - and depending on the vehicle it is possible to get it 180 degrees out of time. I always mark mine and am extremely careful not to move anything if at all possible).
When the timing belt tensioner is released it can often knock the system out of time - this can make it necessary to set it to slightly to one side or the other from TDC so that when it is released that it will pop up on TDC.
Since a lot of stuff had to be taken off the engine to take the head off for resurfacing and gasket replacement, it might be as simple as the crank or cam position sensor not being all the way plugged in (it is also easy to accidentally loosen a wire if you aren't careful unplugging various connectors). I've been in exactly that position a few times - take it slow and check everything. It might not hurt to try giving the cam a 180 degree spin and trying it again just in case.
Whats The Difference Between Automotive Mechanic And Tech?
Hello I Would Like To Know The Difference Between Automotive Mechanic And Technicians.
For the most part there the same.
With the rapid advancement in technology, the mechanic's job has evolved from purely mechanical, to include electronic technology. Because vehicles today possess complex computer and electronic systems, mechanics need to have a broader base of knowledge than in the past. Lately, the term "auto mechanic" is being used less and less frequently and is being replaced by “automotive technician”. In the past you could easily learn about cars without even going to automotive school, but in todays world technology is being incorporated into more and more vehicles so the days of just watching and learning are done. You have to go to automotive school to learn more in depth and get better training.

1997 Toyota Camry P0401 Obd-Ii Code (Gas Recirculation - Insufficient Exhaust Flow)?
I Have A 1997 Toyota Camry That Has An Ongoing Exhaust System Problem. First, The Exhaust Manifold Has Been Running Real Hot For A While Now - I Mean Red Hot Like It Just Came Out Of The Furnace. I Took The Car For A Smog Test Last Month And It Passed With Flying Colors. Temperature Gauge Shows Normal - Always Just A Tad Above The Middle. Car Does Not Overheat Or Lose Power, But It Water Hose And The Radiator Indicates Above Normal Pressure. If You Touch The Hose After Driving The Car For A Few Minutes, You Can Feel The Boiling Water Inside The Hose. Engine Runs Smooth And Quiet However. I Had It Check For Crack Head Gasket And Result Was Negative.
Two Days Ago The Engine Check Light Came On. I Bought An Obd Ii Reader And Reader Shows Error Code P0401 (Gas Recirculation - Insufficient Exhaust Flow). I Need Help Figuring Out What'S Is The Likely Culprit So I Can Decide Whether To Fix It Myself Or Take It To A Mechanic. In Case I Take It To A Mechanic, At Least I Know What The Problem Is So I Won'T Get Taken. Thanks For All Your Help.
While the EGR system helps cool cylinder temperatures, I DOUBT that this is causing a hot manifold or high cooling system pressures... These two things should be checked by a shop... Hot manifold could be a fuel control problem of some sort, high cooling system pressure could indicate a combustion leak of the head gasket ( see if the coolant smells like exhaust fumes)
Hot manifold *could* also indicate a clogged catalytic converter, does the car run sluggish at all, or not want to accelerate well?
EGR basics: computer senses engine load, throttle position, amongst other values, and calculates desired egr flow. Egr flow is regulated by way of a pulse width modulated solenoid valve. There is a transducer in place to sense egr pipe backpressure, and help adjust egr flow accordingly... The computer then uses O2 sensor readings, knock sensor values, and other means to determine if the egr system is working properly.. Hence your P0401, computer sees a problem with egr flow.
Causes of this code are usually: clogged egr passageway(s), bad transducer (melted diaphragm), bad solenoid valve(s), broken vacuum hose(s), or bad egr valve
Are you prepared to make this diagnosis on your own? Code readers are great, and so is learning new things, but keep in mind modern engine control systems are very complex and usually requiire a pretty good understanding of theory to help make an educated diagnosis.
Have fun and good luck!

What Year Toyota 4Runner Should I Get?
I Am 16 And Looking For A First Car. My Car Needs To Be 4X4 Since I Snowboard Twice A Week. So I Was Looking At The Toyota 4Runner And After A Few Hours Of Research, Decided That I Like It Rather Then The Ford Escape. What Year Should I Get My Toyota 4Runner???
Since Its My First Car The Insurance Needs To Be Hella Cheap So Probably Between The Years Of 1980 And 2000 Right?
Well you left us with many choices....The 4 runner came out in 84...These were straight axle front end and a convertible top...They only came with a 4 banger with a carburetor...In 85 you had the same truck but fuel injection was an option....These are the most sought after of all the 4 runners...They are easy to lift, they are fuel injected with gas saving 4 cylinder engines with removable top....86 they went to independent front suspension...Still same body style......89 we had major changes.....Hardtop only and they came with their all new v6 motor....These were junk and were prone to head gasket and head failures....Their were many recalls for this engine....They really didn,t get the problem solved until the mid 90.s...95 they came out with their all new v6...More power,a little less fuel mileage but a great little motor....So thats the story of the 4 runner...Me i,d go with the flow and get a 85 fuel injected 4 runner...Sure you,ll have to look around for a while and probably pay a little more money but the resale on the truck we always be good...You,ll have your snow truck then in the summer you can take the top off and go camping and 4 Wheeling in style...Parts are cheap and gas mil age is good...You can,t go wrong with an efi 85 runner!!!
