Doing Your Own Car Repair?
In This Tough Economy Time, Is It Good To Do Your Own Car Repair Best Ten Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory ?

Let me start with a story. Several months ago a pipe burst under the main bathroom in our home. I decided I could approach this and repair the pipe and reroute it so that it no longer runs under the foundation of the house. 2 weeks into it and I had a huge hole in the wall where I decided to tap on to the hot water pipe. And we had no hot water in the house. I had also broken the vanity around the main bathroom sink. I finally called a plumber who came out and re routed the pipe through the attic in one day. He charged me $500. 10 Best Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory I then had to call a general contractor to come repair the hole in my wall and install a new vanity. Another $500. If I had called the plumber in the beginning I would have only spent $500 and had it repaired that day. And my wife would have been much happier.

The point of my story? I am a mechanic. Not a plumber. I did more damage to my home by not knowing what I was doing.

If the car you are talking about repairing is your main form of transportation, the family car so to speak, then no I would not attempt to learn how to repair my own car on that one. You could end up doing greater damage and costing yourself more money in the long run. And you could end up having a lot of down time. You want to keep your wife happy? LEAVE THE CAR ALONE! Trust me on this one.

If it is a secondary car, then I would certainly give it a shot if I wanted to learn how to fix cars.

I do see your point. When money is tight, we do all we can to save some dollars. Wandering into the unkown is not a good way to do it.

Can Oil Leak From A Head Gasket On My 1993 Toyota Camry Top Ten Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory ?
Two Mechanics Looked At It: One Said It Was The Head Gasket The Other Said It Was A Valve.

oil leak from a Valve Cover is common on almost all cars. You get the gasket replaced and the oil leak stops.

however, a head gasket leak usually causes over heating, and car does not run very well. You will usually either have oil in coolant or coolant in the oil depending on what port the head gasket fails either a water port or oil port.

You would definitly have a major issue on the way the car runs and over heating if head gasket was bad.

good luck, I think from what you wrote you probably just have a valve cover gasket leaking.Top Ten Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory

Whast The Difference Between Smog Check And Smog Test Most Popular Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory ?
Im New To Cali And I Need To Know The Difference Between The Smog Check And Smog Test And What One I Need

When you say smog test, I'm going to assume you mean "smog test only" center... A Smog Test Only center, as the name suggests, can only test vehicles and is not allowed to perform any repairs. A smog test only center has an obligation to insure a non-biased smog test. They are certified to inspect all DMV required vehicles.

And when you say "smog check"... you mean a regular smog check center, also known as the "smog check & repair" center. Note, a regular smog check & repair center is not allowed to inspect a vehicle designated to go to a "test only center". Most Popular Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory

It is very important that you refer to your DMV paperwork. Locate the smog check requirement section and find our if they are asking for a "smog check" or "smog test only" inspection. From there you can determine which way to go.

We highly recommend you learn more about the different station types as well as search for great money saving smog check coupons at http://www.smogtips.com.

We know this is all a bit confusing. Feel free to email one of our technicians for clarity. Top Ten Auto Inspection in Show Low Directory

I Need Help Troubleshooting On My 1987 Ford Bronco 2 2.9L 179Ci V6 Fi.?
Yes Ive Got A 1987 Ford Bronco 2 With The 2.9L 179Ci V6 Fi. Every Time When Im Driving, Im Starting To Smell Antifreeze. Ive Checked All The Fluids And I Also Replaced All The Hoses, Water Pump, And Thermostat. Im Still Smelling Antifreeze. If You Guys Have Any Ideas As To Why Im Smelling Antifreeze I Would Really Appreciate If You Can Help Me Out. Thanks.

If you can not find the leak anywhere, but the smell persists and the vehicle is indeed loosing anti-freeze, you might be looking at a leaking head gasket. It might be leaking it into the oil, where the oil looks a little like chocolate milk. It might be leaking it directly into the combustion chamber, usually a misty fog coming out of the tailpipe.

How Much Does It Cost To Replace Two Cylinder Head Gaskets?
I Have A 2001 Toyota Camry That Needs Two Cylinder Head Gaskets Replace. An Auto Mechanic Quoted A $ 2800 To Do The Job. Is This A Fear Price?

That quote sounds very high if its for just the gaskets and not the actual cylinder heads. I would diffenitely get some comparison estimates. Also it could be other parts/repairs may need to be done in conjunction with the head gasket replacements.

Maybe I Should Have It Checked Out Or Maybe I Should Buy It. The Guy Also Wants $2,500 But Won'T Go Down. Maybe I Should Get A Ford Mustang? All The Similar Cars (Civics/Integras) I Have Looked At Have Issues Of One Sort Or Another. I Live In California,Ventura Where Prices For These Kind Of Auto A More Than The National Average. My Dad Tell Me I Should Buy His Friends 1997 Camry For $2,500 Because His Friend Has A Honest Reputation. My Dad Has Done Business With Him Before. I Know This Might Sound Like I Am Retarded Or Something But My Iq Is 125 And I Have A Gpa Of 2.70 At Junior Collage. Ok Sure I Messed Up In High School And Had A 1.41 (Seriously) Gpa Because I Never Went To School But I Have Matured And Back In The Day High School Didn'T Mean Anything Anyways. I Did Lose A Cal Grant For College Because My Parents Didn'T Tell Me If My Grades Were Low I Would Miss Out. Can You Believe That? My Dad Know About But Kept That Information To Him Self. So Far 1 1/2 Years 27 Units I Have Only One Fail So I Am Doing Pretty Good If My Gpa Is 2.70, Right? Thanks For Reading.

Well I'm 20. How the hell did you get from "Is this a good buy"? to "Are my grades fine"???? If you don't know much about cars bring it to a good mechanic and see whats wrong with, even if you do know quite a bit you should still get it checked out. Use the problems in that car to your advantage when bargaining. I wouldn't pay more than a grand unless it was in exceptional condition which is unlikely. Where I live a 2.7 is pathetic. All that depends on who your comparing yourself to.

Question About Car Repair?
I Just Took My Ford Focus To A Repair Shop, To Get It Checked Out. The Mechanic Quoted Me At 500 Dollars Because The Engine Bearings Are Worn Out (Which The Mechanic Said Was The Reason It Was Dying). Im Just Curious If Thats About The Right Price, And The Right Diagnosis

Definitely get another opinion.
How did he diagnose this? compression check? leak down test? Did he pull your oil pan off to look at your bearings.
did he verify your oil pressure?

What year model is the car how many miles, what are the symptoms we need a little more info.

Now its your car & you know better than any of us, tell me please that you change the oil every 3000 miles.

The car needs jumping is a battery voltage symptom

When was the last time you put a new battery in the car?

Does your engine light come on?

These cars need 12volt & more to make everything work properly, ecm, fuel injectors, maf sensors, Idle air control valves etc. Check that battery.

Idling slow could be a bad or clogged converter,
clogged fuel lines or such.
check all fluids, oil level, transmission level, if its an automatic, radiator fluid and all. Maybe bad gas.

an oil pressure test could verify if your loosing oil pressure & verify the bearing clearances. But they would need to know the proper pressures for a normal stock car & compare it to yours.
The cars too new in my opinion to need bearings unless you neglected oil changes.

I hate Scum that try to get over on people, yet this may not be the case but it sure seems odd to me.

Go somewhere else first. Id get 2 MORE opinions then you'll know.

Automotive Repair As A Career?
I Was Wondering If Automotive Repair Was A Good Trade To Get Into And I Was Also Wondering What High School Classes That Would Help Me Get Into This Trade. Location Is Canada. Thanks.

Physics class is the gold standard for learning automotive technology. Newton's laws of motion, Watt's law of power, Ohm's law of resistance, and Bernoulli's law of displacement are the automotive technician's best friends.

Learn mechanical and electrical engineering. Read all the books, especially the automotive encyclopedia, to get the terminology firmly embedded into your memory so you can accurately and verbally articulate the problems you see for other technicians. This is how you will learn the most...from the experience of others in the same field of study.

Good Luck and begin reading today.
