In The Event You Leave Auto Repair To A Professional Mechanic? Every car fails
eventually, and that's an undeniable fact! Having said that, some cars are very likely to malfunctioning than the others, and in case you're inside a tough situation, you may be left to wonder: can i attempt a DIY auto repair or hire a mechanic? An oil change is a good instance of something a novice driver could do, but if you have troubles beyond that, acquiring a car mechanic to complete the repairs could be a good idea and here's why: Experience You might have basically no idea what you're doing and you could actually wind up making things worse. Even when you seem like you're a DIY savvy person, you can wind up causing other parts of your own car to malfunction. Not to mention, you only have no idea what's actually wrong with the vehicle, unless you accept it apart and hope with your might you may place it back together again. An auto mechanic has become accomplishing this for many years and that he can simply diagnose and repair any issue your car may be up against. Right Tools You will need the best tools plus a decent workspace to begin concentrating on auto repair. Until you happen to have an entire garage with equipment and tools focused on this, you have got to invest in the necessary tools to repair your vehicle. Obviously, without prior experience coping with car repair, you may possibly not know what you ought to purchase, not forgetting, you might never use these tools again. Hiring a professional car mechanic can eliminate the need for one to invest money into tools and equipment you're unlikely to use again since he will already have everything on hand. Speedy Repairs Should you just have one household car you should utilize to access work on time, you need to make sure that the car is fixed at the earliest opportunity. Needless to say, in the event you attempt a DIY repair, things will go wrong, and in many cases after they don't, it takes you plenty much more time to get your vehicle running than if you decide to engage a mechanic. You could have your automobile out of commission for a day or two when taking it to your mechanic, but it really sure beats being unable to go to work! Spend Less Perhaps probably the most compelling excellent reasons to drop your vehicle off for repair in a mechanic's is to save cash. You won't have to invest money into tools, equipment, and auto parts you might never need. In addition to, while your vehicle is out of commission, you might have to rent a car or go ahead and take bus-- costing you even more money! Working with a mechanic for auto repair could save you from the long haul, especially if you take into consideration that work well done can prolong the lifespan of your own vehicle. The next occasion your car offers you trouble, why not stop in a car mechanic's?

Head Gasket For A Toyota Camry?
I Have A '92 Toyota Camry That Needs A New Head Gasket.
How Much Would The Head Gasket Cost, And How Much Would Installation Cost? Just Wanna Know So I Wont Get Overcharged.
My Friend Told Me That Installation Would Be More Than A Grand. Best Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directory Is That Right? He Said Its Cuz Its Really Difficult To Get To The Gasket.
The gasket itself is really cheap compared to the install cost, probably around 50-100 bucks
I wouldnt pay ANY MORE than 1000 bucks for the install. Shop and/or call around to find a better price. I got my head gasket replaced for only 600 bucks which i hear was a pretty good price. If you know someone that is really good with cars or even a mechanic willing to do it off the clock you could probably get it done for even less. 10 Best Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directory
About The Auto Repair Insurance...?
I Wanna Get The Auto Repair Insurance But Dont Know How Legit It Is... Top Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directory Never Heard Anything Else About It. Is It Real? Is There A Catch? If It Is Real Which Company Is Best? I Pretty Much Know You Have To Have Car Insurance, I Have That Already.
It is real, keep in mind that it only covers repairs for a wreck, not if your car breaks down. The better question to ask would be is it worth it?
My logic is simple but not for everyone Best Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directory.
Background logic point #1:
- Only insure what you can't afford to replace; and even then, realize that it will cost, on average, in the aggregate, more to insure, than the damage that will occur (otherwise, insurance companies would be out of business).
Background logic point #2:
- Unless you know something the insurance company doesn't know, in the aggregate, they know better than you do what 'will' happen to you, statistically; so they have priced that into their tables (see point #1 which is they plan on staying in business). Best Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directory
With those key tenets in mind, here's my logic (using generic figures):
Let's say the cars you buy cost roughly $30K dollars, 2 years old, still under warranty (which is your habit, let's say).
Let's say you drive from age 20 to age 80 (i.e., 60 years driving life).
Over that driving life, let's say your 'collision & comp' averages, oh, in NJ, about $1,000/year; in California, about half that.
How much money is that?
NJ = $60K, CA = $30K
That's one or two complete cars paid for depending on your local costs for insurance (which is the key figure as cars are about the same price, roughly, everywhere).
In actuality, it's even more than that because the insurance company was only gonna give you $30K for the car on the first day; every day after that, it dropped in value while repair costs don't generally drop a whole lot in value. But, let's skip that, for now.
Now, let's play insurance actuary for a moment. Best Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directory
You know YOUR driving habits; you know what YOUR neighborhood is like (e.g., theft), you know how YOUR kids drive; you know whether you drive drunk, or whether you drive many thousands of miles, etc.
So, how many cars do YOU think YOU will total in your lifetime that will be 100% your fault?
Hint: How many cars have you totaled so far?
Note: If it's someone else's fault, then you don't count it.
Let's assume, for argument's sake, you'll completely total two cars, all by your own fault (or by theft or acts of God and the like).
If you lived in NJ, you break even only after you completely total at least two cars (remember, it has to be your fault or theft-like circumstances)!
So, in NJ, you have to total more than two cars, just to get past the break-even point.
In California, the numbers are half that.
You would reach the break-even point when you total the first car.
Here's my summary:
As long as you can afford to replace the "object", it's generally not worth insuring because (and only because) the insurance company knows better than you do what your costs will be and they've priced that into your premium.
Moral of the story:
Calculate, over your lifetime, how much collision & comp costs you
Estimate, over your lifetime, how many cars you'll total
If the costs are appreciably greater than the number of cars you'll total, insurance isn't worth it (if you have the cash). Otherwise, get the insurance.

1996 Toyota Camry Keeps Overheating Very Badly?
I Have A 1996 Toyota Camry And It Started Overheating One Day...Well My Dad Thought It Might Be The Water Pump So I Bought A Water Pump And When My Dad Went To Put It On He Discovered This Wasn'T The Problem.
Well It Didn'T Overheat For A While And Then It Started Again....And It Just Did It On Occasion, But Now It'S Getting Worse. I Can'T Even Drive For 45 Minutes Without My Car Overheating And Me Having To Put More Antifreeze Or Water In The Radiator.
It Also Has Trouble Starting From Time To Time.... Top Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low DirectoryIt'Ll Drive Fine And Then When I Go To Start It Again It Won'T Start For Like Ten Minutes.
I'M Going To Eventually Take It To A Mechanic, But That Takes Money Which I Don'T Have A Lot Of...Just Wanted To Get Some Opinions On Here First.
put some peppermint oil in the radiator a little bit. drive it for 30 minutes if you smell the peppermint coming out of the exhaust you have a blown head gasket leaking into your valves. it is being cooked and exits thru your exhaust. if you oil looks like chocolate milk then its going into your crankcase.you could try putting black pepper in your radiator. if that does not work with the engine cold, crack an egg into your radiator and run for 30 minutes. i know this sounds crazy but i have used pepper to plug a leak in my radiator and it held for over 3 years until i sold the car and the kid who bought had it 2 years. Best Ten Car Service Center Near Me in Show Low Directorythe egg trick is for a cracked block but it might work. you also for under 10 bucks and 2 bolts should change the thermostat, which i normally do when i change the waterpump.

How Much Would It Cost To Fix Blown Head Gasket?
I Am Looking For A Car And I Keep Seeing Adds That Say :Blown Head Gasket. I Have A Descent Ability To Work On Cars Myself, But Now Too Good With Terminology. When They Say Blown Head Gasket, Is It Just A New Gasket That Needs Changed Or What? How Much Would That Cost? Looking At A 92 Toyota 4 Runner For 500.
If you are asking this question then you are not even close to being able to tackle this one yourself.
The "blown head gasket" can mean a lot of things but it usually means your engine is fried or damaged. Chances are good that you might need to do a lot more than replace the gasket. You often are looking at a total engine replacement.
... and don't bother with a Toyota 4Runner with this problem. The engine is toast.
1993 Ford Bronco Over Heating
Radiator Is The Biggest I Coulfd Get And The Thermostat Is New And Put In Rite, And If It Was A Blow Head Gasket Would There Be Water In My Oil And There Is Not, And Fluid Level Is Good In Radiator, And It Only Does It When I Pull A Hill Hard Or Pull My Trailer, Would A Mechanic Be Able To Tell Me More
No water in oil doesn't mean that the head gasket is not blown. but check the transmission fluid and trans cooler. might need to add an external cooler for the trans. how about adding an auxiliary cooling fan. check your fan clutch also with motor warm turn off try to turn the fan by hand if it turns easy then the fan clutch is bad and needs to be replaced.

2004 Toyota Camry Shot Water Pump And Now Car Wont Turn Over? Help Please!!?
I Have A 2004 Toyota Camry That I Got For Graduation In May. When I Started Driving It It Had About 144,000 Miles On It Already. About A Month And A Half Ago My Car Started Making This Godforsaken Noise That Sounded Like A Engine Knock But It Progressivly Got Worse. My Boyfriend And His Dad Both Looked At It And Couldn'T Figure It Out At First. My Bf Thought It Was My Alternator Going Out. Well Today We Were Putting My Snow Tires On My Car And After We Got Them On We Turned The Car On To Warm It Up So We Could Test The Tires Out A Little. After We Jacked The Car Down He Noticed There Was All This Fluid Running Out And Dripping Onto The Ground. It Was Just Old Water And He First Thought It Was All The Snow Melting Out From Under My Car Because We Live In North Dakota And It Gets Pretty Frickin Cold Up Here. So We Got In The Car And Drove Off And Noticed The Engine Was Warming Up But There Was No Heat Coming Out Of The Vents. The Temp Was Perfect Until We Were Trying To Figure Out Why The Heat Wasn'T Working And After It Just Sat There For About A Minute And Blew Freezing Cold Air, The Engine Temp Gauge Was Almost All The Way Maxed Out. My Bf Knew Right Away That It Was The Water Pump Because We Weren'T Getting Any Heat And My Engine Was Overheated (But Not Smoking Or Steaming. Weird..) So He Threw The Car Into Neutral And Turned It Off And We Started Coasting Our Way Home And We Had To Stop At A Stop Sign So He Tried To Start The Car To Just Get It Moving Again And Then Turn It Off. But We Ended Up Getting Stuck At The Stop Sign Because My Car Wouldn'T Start Up Again. It Was So Dead That The Internal Lights Didn'T Even Turn On And The Information Panel Lights Were Baaaarely Dim. So My Boyfriends Dad Ended Up Pulling Us Home. Well All Day It Sat In The Driveway And Then Tonight I Went Out There To See If It Would Turn Over But It Didn'T. It Has A Charge, I Know That Because I Tested All The Lights. When We Got Home Today I Couldn'T Even Use My Key Fob To Lock The Car Doors Because Thats How Dead The Car Was, But When I Went Out There Tonight The Lights, The Brights, The Blinkers And The Internal Lights And Everything All Work Perfectly And Are All Bright As Can Be, But When I Try To Start My Car It Just Makes That Horrible Clicking Noise And I Have To Turn The Key Back Again. My Bf'S Dad Thinks That Theres Just Not A Connection Going On Right Now And That My Battery Is Probobly Shot. But I Don'T Know Really. I'M Honestly Not Too Worried About My Water Pump Because My Bf Knows How To Replace Them, But I'M More Worried About Why The Heck My Car Doesn'T Start Because I Really Don'T Want To Have To Get A New Alternator Because I Have Absolutly No Money At The Moment And I Need My Car To Get Around. :/ Any Ideas? The Car Has 156,000 Miles On It, The Oil Was Just Changed Less Than A Month Ago, My Radiator Is In Good Condition And There Has Never Not Been Coolant Or Anything In There. Living In North Dakota Sometimes I Drive The Car In Low Gear Just For A Few Blocks To Get The Engine Warmed Up Perfect And Fast Because It'S So Cold Outside. I'M Wondering If That'S Maybe What Did It. But This Is Also The First Time My Car Has Ever Overheated Or Had Any Problems At All. But From My Research The Water Pump On Camrys Is A Constant Reoccuring Problem And They Usualy Go Out Between 70 And 100,000 Miles...So I Am Kinda Way Past That Mileage Range Lol. Help Please!? Thank You. :))
the all important Q here is what engine is this?
if you have the I4, yea, prolly toasted a head gasket. since the water pump is driven off the accessory pulleys. therefore no reason, given your scenario, why it wouldn't at least start other than a head gasket issue.
but if you have the V6 you may not have a head gasket issue. there is a good chance this maybe ok. after repair.
those have under timing belt water pumps. if the pump was the source of the noise, the pulley was prolly wobbling. leaking. it would leak coolant onto the timing belt providing a lubricant for it to slip.
yes, she over heated. the chance it that the belt slipped b4 she got too hot. and that,s why it won't start.
now here's the catch, the mz family of V6's maybe of VVT-variable valve timing or not. toy call's these an interference type engine. those, usually, if a timing belt slips/breaks, cause internal engine damage. however, i have read that they are not interference type at or below valve (VVT) advance curve. that means if the belt slipped or broke at low enough rpm, yes, she won't start, but it's possible there maybe no engine damage other than a water pump and timing belt.
toy calls these interference type, but do not make the distinction being non-interference type statically (engine not running-or below advance curve.
this is only what i've read. some have gotton away with this type of issue w/o any internal engine damage. but i have no personal experience to back it up.
it is *possible* on the V6 only, the water pump leaked, caused the belt to slip, and even though it got hot, the belt slipping is the cause of no start. and, if there was no valve to piston contact, you could only be looking at a pump and belt replacement. which on these is pricey enough. 300-400 bucks for just labor. but, the engine itself may not be damaged.
so since a new engine of this type would run around 2000+++. it would be worth the effort, if there's no coolant in the oil or vise versa, to replace the pump and belt, check compression, passing that, chemical test coolant for petrol base contaminants, check oil for coolant one more time. doing and passing all that, would be worth the effort.
a reputable ASE shop or the dealer is best for quality work. but you might look into a reputable local independent shop to keep the costs down.
What Is A Smog Test?
I Am From Minnesota And They Dont Have A Smog Test Here, Currently My Dad Is On A Contract In California But He Chooses To Have A Minnesotan License Plate, I Asked Him Why And He Said That You Have To Do A Smog Test If It Is A California Vehicle, What Is A Smog Test And Why Dont People Want To Do It
WHY DOES CALIFORNIA NEED A SMOG CHECK PROGRAM?
In 1970 Congress passed the Federal Clean Air Act, which set quality standards for the nation. The act required areas that did not meet air quality standards to implement emissions control strategies or they would lose their building and highway funds. California did not meet the Federal Air quality standards. Hence, in 1982 it decided to implement an emissions inspection program, currently referred to as the "Smog Check" program.
The California Smog Check program is designed to identify vehicles, which are polluters through the use of a state of the art exhaust gas analyzer. The exhaust analyzer is much like a photo camera except it takes pictures of your vehicle's exhaust (rather then your vehicle) and translates that into information which a Smog technician can read/understand and evaluate. Based on this information the technician can diagnose your vehicle's engine condition.
The Smog Inspection is not to be feared. It's simply an inspection designed to make sure your car is in good running order. It's also an excellent opportunity for you to evaluate your vehicle's engine performance and make sure your car is running at optimum levels.
The average smog inspection price will vary shop to shop. It will normally range anywhere between $29.95 to $59.95 depending on the county you live in and the type of smog inspection your vehicle requires. This price may or may not include the State's Certificate Fee of $8.25. In some parts of California, where smog inspections are not so common, shop owners may choose to charge a little more for the smog inspection in order to make up for the high cost of maintenance.
There is no State of California regulation for the actual cost of the smog check due to the fact that smog stations are privately owned businesses. However there are laws which require smog stations, smog test only centers and smog repair centers to display thier smog inspection prices in areas accessible to and easily viewed by the public.
