Dor A First Time Driver What Is The Best And Nicest Cheap Car I Should Get Best Ten Automotive Shops in Snowflake Directory?

Used or new? What size are you? Good somewhat cheap cars would be the Nissan sentra, Nissan versa, Toyota camry, Honda civic, ford focus (these are cheap and reliable but have to be meticulously maintained and driven lightly, head gaskets are a common issue with these), if you want a good used car go for an older pontiac grand am (I have always had good luck with these cars with little to no issues), Chevy cavalier, toyota corolla or Camry, Nissan maxima, Acura integra, vigor, or tl, Honda civic or accord. Your best bet is to go foreign for your first car. They usually don't require as much maintenance as domestic brands. Stay away from Isuzu, Mazda, and Hyundai/Kia (these brands will cost you tons of time and money....some of them are good cars but why take the chance on getting a clunker). Top Ten Automotive Shops in Snowflake Directory If you're buying used make sure you get a carfax report to make sure the car has never been in an accident or had any major repairs and try to find a car with less than 100k miles on it. Up to 120k is ok on a newer toyota, nissan, or Honda brand.

What Does It Mean When White Smoke Comes Out Of Your Exhaust Pipe?? Is It A Blown Head Or Head Gasket Blown Or Could It Be A Valve Gasket Blown?? Its For A Ford Contour 1996 Top Ten Automotive Shops in Snowflake Directory??

That would most likely be a bad head gasket. Car Dealers Auto Mechanics?
Want To Know What The Setup Is, The Pay Practices Of Certified Mechanics Doing Car Repairs At New Car Dealerships. Do They Just Earn An Hourly Wage, A Set Wage? Or Do They Get Incentive Pay, Like A Bonus For Selling More Parts And Services? I'Ve Heard Some Small Car Repair Shops Do Something Called ' Tab '. Best Ten Automotive Shops in Snowflake Directory They Try To Find Other Things Wrong With Your Car When You Bring It To Them For A Repair And They Pad The Bill - Therefore The Mechanic Makes A Bonus.

Mechanics generally get paid by the Job... Thus if the book says it takes 1 hour to do the job the Mechanic gets $.$$ for that hour of labor. If he can finish in 45 minutes and start another job then he gets to keep the extra. They ALSO generally get paid a co mission on Parts. And the commission depends on the shop, how good they are, and if it was the original job or something they found afterwords. The big question is not the Mechanic doing the work at the dealer its the person standing between you and the mechanic they call the service writer (who may or may not have any mechanic experience--- I know of a salesman becoming a service writer) they are paid the big bucks to upsell you on the extras like a tranny or coolant flush, tire rotation etc etc. Most Popular Automotive Shops in Snowflake Directory
But I agree with the writer....When you find a mechanic you like and trust STAY WITH them... a Good mechanic will want your return business more then they want to upsell you on some added service this trip. 10 Best Automotive Shops in Snowflake Directory

Doing Your Own Car Repair?
In This Tough Economy Time, Is It Good To Do Your Own Car Repair?

Let me start with a story. Several months ago a pipe burst under the main bathroom in our home. I decided I could approach this and repair the pipe and reroute it so that it no longer runs under the foundation of the house. 2 weeks into it and I had a huge hole in the wall where I decided to tap on to the hot water pipe. And we had no hot water in the house. I had also broken the vanity around the main bathroom sink. I finally called a plumber who came out and re routed the pipe through the attic in one day. He charged me $500. I then had to call a general contractor to come repair the hole in my wall and install a new vanity. Another $500. If I had called the plumber in the beginning I would have only spent $500 and had it repaired that day. And my wife would have been much happier.

The point of my story? I am a mechanic. Not a plumber. I did more damage to my home by not knowing what I was doing.

If the car you are talking about repairing is your main form of transportation, the family car so to speak, then no I would not attempt to learn how to repair my own car on that one. You could end up doing greater damage and costing yourself more money in the long run. And you could end up having a lot of down time. You want to keep your wife happy? LEAVE THE CAR ALONE! Trust me on this one.

If it is a secondary car, then I would certainly give it a shot if I wanted to learn how to fix cars.

I do see your point. When money is tight, we do all we can to save some dollars. Wandering into the unkown is not a good way to do it.

Do I Need A Smog Certificate To Get My Car Checked By A Mechanic?
I Recently Purchased A Car From A Private Seller. I Called A Local Mechanic To Get The Car Checked. I Told Him I Wanted To Bring The Car In So They Can Check If There Are Any Problems With It. He Told Me I Need A Smog Certificate Before He Can Check My Car. Is This True? Have You Heard Of This? Do I Need A Smog Certificate For A Mechanic To Check My Car For Any Problems? I Asked Several People If This Is True And They Told Me They'Ve Never Heard Of That. The Tags Aren'T Due Till November Of This Year. Thank You

A car, when sold must be smog certified by the seller. It can't be registered otherwise. The mechanic doesn't need your smog certificate in order to check the car. He might be asking for it as a shortcut diagnosis. The emissions levels will be listed on the smog report. Maybe he wants to charge you for a smog check. You need to register the car to yourself since it's yours, and you must show a smog slip to the motor vehicle department or have a smog shop electronically transfer it to them before you can register it.

Whast The Difference Between Smog Check And Smog Test?
Im New To Cali And I Need To Know The Difference Between The Smog Check And Smog Test And What One I Need

When you say smog test, I'm going to assume you mean "smog test only" center... A Smog Test Only center, as the name suggests, can only test vehicles and is not allowed to perform any repairs. A smog test only center has an obligation to insure a non-biased smog test. They are certified to inspect all DMV required vehicles.

And when you say "smog check"... you mean a regular smog check center, also known as the "smog check & repair" center. Note, a regular smog check & repair center is not allowed to inspect a vehicle designated to go to a "test only center".

It is very important that you refer to your DMV paperwork. Locate the smog check requirement section and find our if they are asking for a "smog check" or "smog test only" inspection. From there you can determine which way to go.

We highly recommend you learn more about the different station types as well as search for great money saving smog check coupons at http://www.smogtips.com.

We know this is all a bit confusing. Feel free to email one of our technicians for clarity.

Overflow Boiling On Toyota Camry?
I Have A 1993 Toyota Camry (Lxe V6) That Is Having Issues. When I Start The Car The Coolant Overflow Starts To Boil After About 7-10Min. When I Feel The Radiator Cap While Running It Is Not Hot At All. I Just Replaced The Thermostat And I Cannot See Any Leaks. Fan Works Good And I Do Not See Any White Smoke Out The Tail Pipe. Any Ideas?

Toyota V6's of that vintage had a lot of head gasket problems. if this one has gone 16 years - that is a miracle. most likely combustion pressure leaking into cooling system. Take the radiator cap off and "goose" the engine and watch in the radiator neck. if it bubbles and burps when accelerated - that is a gasket leaking.
need to replace gaskets - possibly mill heads flat - eliminate pits and warpage.

Working As An Auto Mechanic?
I Would Like To Be Working In An Auto Mechanic, To Get Some Money And I Can Learn More About Fixing Cars, That Way I Don'T Have To Get Ripped Off And Fix My Car On My Own. I'M Going To Be 17 This Summer Hopefully I Can Get The Job. So Anyone With Personal Experience, Is It A Good Idea And Could It Be Possible To Own A Mechanic Shop?

Well... To be a good mechanic, you need to have a passion for it... and really like to do it. There is decent money to be made in this field, but you will certainly not get rich. If you really want to do this... you will need to start out working in a shop as a helper and trying to attend a trade school... get some hands on experience, and book smarts. Listen to the old dudes, you will learn the tricks you won't get from any book.

You need to make sure you want to do stuff the right way, there are already too many "hacks" out there pretending there mechanics just because they can change oil. Never get a big head about things, you will never know it all, and must be will to accept that. The learning process will never end, all mechanics no matter how long they've been turning wrenches, learn new things everyday.

Owning a shop, and being a mechanic are two different things... any shop owner will tell you that. Turning wrenches, and running a business are two separate animals. To be successful, you need to know both... and very well if you're looking to survive, and even owning a shop will not make you rich either... it's even harder work, with more stress.

Don't get me wrong... I own a few very successful shops, and have been doing this for a long time, but it can be a thankless job. I have a passion for it, and love it... good and bad. So yeah I hope you find you're answers... and remember to never give up on any dream!

- Good Luck!
