How Much Does It Cost Replace Head Gasket On 91 Toyota Camry?
I Have A 91 Toyota Camry V6 For Four Door That Need Repair On Head Gasket Or Need To Be Replace. How Much Would U Think It Would Cost Best Ten Starter Repair in Snowflake Directory ?

I've worked for a Jeep/Chrysler/Toyota dealer for twenty nine years now and there is no repairing the head gasket it must be replaced. Now if you got the engine too hot it may have a warped cylinder head as well. If it's just a blown head gasket my garage will charge between $700-$800 labor and about $125 for parts. If it needs some mill work done to the heads as well tack on about $300.00 more dollars. You're looking at about 1100-1200 at a Toyota dealership.
Now for what you should do. Find someone you know to do this that is either a reputable dealer mechanic or a knowledgeable trusted friend. If you lived in Central Illinois i would do it because thats what i do when not at the shop because people are coming to me left and right to avoid having to pay the dealers fees and labor. If i was to do this exact job you would be looking at 75-100 for the gasket and 50 percent labor of the dealership. That would bring you to about $500-600 dollars for a professionally trained tech to do this job. Any more and your getting robbed and any less the person doing it doesnt probably know what theyre doing. All my labor and parts info was directly from our Dealership labor/parts program. Hope this answers your quiry. Top Ten Starter Repair in Snowflake Directory

Cooling Problem On '79 Ford Bronco Bbf Top Ten Starter Repair in Snowflake Directory ?
Actually This Isn'T Really A Cooling Problem, More Like A Coolant Problem. Under Normal Operating Temperature My Radiator Pukes About A Gallon Of Anti Freeze If I Get On The Gas. I Have Replaced The Following To Try And Fix This. Water Pump, And Backing Plate, Thermostat (With A 180), And All Hoses. Can Anyone Point Me In The Right Direction Here? I Was Told When I Rebuilt My Engine I May Have Put The Heads On The Wrong Sides And This Could Be Partially Blocking Water Jackets, I Really Do Not Want To Take My Engine Apart Again So Any Information Would Be Nice. Oh And The Engine Is A Built Up 429 Thunderjet With A Pretty Rank Cam And .30 Over Pistons.

make sure you have a spring loaded radiator cap that meets the specks for your vehicle. the cap opens at certain pressures [usually above boiling] and releases coolant into the over flow tank and later the coolant is sucked back into the radiator. this is normal. installing a lower t-stat will usually enhance the problem because the coolant will not stay in the radiator long enough to transfer away the heat properly. it could be other things causing the problem, and the heads are the same so don't worry about that statement. any time you bore a motor you thin the cylinder walls allowing more heat to enter the cooling system. this can be a big problem in high performance engines so that's why the parts boys sell high dollar aluminum radiators. anyway good luck on solving the up chucking ford. by the way is that the original motor? how about the radiator Top Ten Starter Repair in Snowflake Directory ?

Unlicensed Auto Mechanic?
I Had My Car Worked On By A Mechanic (With A Shop) And Come To Find Out He'S Not Licensed In Anything. He Screwed Up My Car And Now Wont Stand Behind The Work. Is It Legal For Him To Even Have A Shop? Can He Be Shut Down? If So How?

It is not illegal for him to run a shop, however the good thing is that should you take him to small claims court over this, you are pretty much guaranteed to win.
- He led you to believe that he was a licenced mechanic

Even if he can prove to the judge that the work he did to your car had nothing to do with the problem that occurred afterwards, this will have no effect for him, for the simple fact that if you had known he was unlicensed you wouldn't have let him touch your car.

you would have a much harder time taking a dealership to small claims. you pretty much have this one in the bag.

you should talk to this "mechanic" and tell him that you are going to take him to court and talk to the Better Business Bureau, if he doesn't fix the damadge he has done, this may be enough to scare him into fixing your car.

but, do you really want this backyard mechanic touching your car again?

i would have the car fixed somewhere else, then take him to court and sue him for the cost of the repairs that the other shop charged and the cost of his "repair"

You should report him the the BBB anyway

best of luck to ya.

How Much Does A Automotive Mechanic Make In Ontario
I'm Thinking Of Becoming A Mechanic And I Want To Know How Much They Make, Thinking Of 2 Years College And 2 Years Apprenticeship I'm Also Wondering What Ase Certification Stands For

I grew up in a family run garage business and have been a licenced mechanic for 25 years. I got out of the trade a long time ago and haven't looked back once! When I was in the trade, we FIXED things! We didn't just replace parts! I used to rebuild carburetors and take apart alternators to change the rectifier bridge inside...We were truly automotive repair technicians. I even (gasp!) used to rebuild motors!

Unfortunately, the business has changed. If you are willing to sell parts and lots of them, you can make a decent living in the trade, but it certainly isn't what it once was. When I was finishing my last year of trade school, there was over 50% of the students I was there with that were already out of the trade and just finishing up because of the huge investment of time and money they spent getting that far.

With some exceptions most mechanics don't get retirement pension plans from their employers so you better plan to invest in lots of RRSP's or whatever. You have to buy your own tools, shops do not provide them...There's a wheelbarrow full of money right there! When you reach retirement age, your back is screwed your hands are scarred and arthritic, your lungs are full of crap. Sorry! Am I giving you the impression I wouldn't do it again if I had the chance? Believe me I wouldn't!

It's a profession that is starving for good people...it's too bad that it doesn't reward them accordingly.

Is Vista Honda #^@%'Ing Me Over? I Bought A 2 Year Warranty, And Now They'Re Saying The Part Isn'T Covered?
I Bought A 1996 Honda Accord From Vista Honda Of Ventura, Ca About 2 Months Ago. Since Before Signing My Contract (Which I Had To Resign 4 Different Times, Due To Their Own Personal Mistakes), I Told My Finance Manager, Lee Robison, That I Heard A Knocking Under The Hood And Wanted It Checked Out. He Reassured Me, &Quot;Don'T Worry. It'S All Covered Underneath Your 2 Year/24,000 Mile Warranty.&Quot; Well, I Had My Fiancée Take My Car In Today For An Oil Change And Full Diagnosis. They Are Saying That My Driving Belt Tensioner Needs To Be Replaced, And That It Isn'T Covered By My Warranty. They Want To Charge Me $300! I Told Him What Lee Robison Said, And He Started Laughing. This Has By Far Been The Worst Car Buying Experience Of My Life. I Ended Up Having To Resign My Contract 4 Times. The Mechanic Said He Was Going To Ask The Front Office If They Wanted To Cover It, But I Haven'T Heard Back From Him Yet. Any Suggestions On What I Should Do? I'M Not Sure If This Is Covered Under California Lemon Law, As There Have Been No Attempts Of Them Trying To Repair This Part Before (At Least Since I'Ve Owned It). I Hope Some Of You Can Provide Me With Some Helpful Insight.

Are you sure anyone would be stupid enough to warranty a 15 yr old car? Read the paperwork to see what it covered.

Its not a lemon its a 15 yr old car. Lemon laws are for new cars.

Why didn't you bother to get it checked out before you bought it either? Its your fault for not doing it.

How Much Should I Have To Pay To Replace A Head Gasket On A 1995 Toyota Camry 2200 4 Cylinder?
It Hasn'T Over Heated At All So I Dnt Think The Head Is Messed Up At All.

at my local shop,if u need head work, would be $25 to clean head,$25 to resurface,$25 to check for cracks or leaks,$25 for each valve replaced,i would recommend having all valves replaced,$20 for new head gasket, then labor for taking off, then replacing head probally $125.,thats if u have all valves replaced ,not including the valves prices ,$13 a exhaust valve,$8 for the other one

Replacing Toyota Camry Engine?
Hi Folks - My Car Has Been Damaged In The Rear, But Has A Good Engine, Gearbox (Auto Transmission), Tyres, Battery Etc. The Cost Of Fixing The Damage Is Prohibitive. It Is A 1996 Toyota Camry 3.0 L Car And I Am Considering Buying A Broken Down Car Which Has A Blown Engine/Head Gasket And Replacing That Engine With The Good One From My Car. Does That Sound Feasible? Can I Replace The Engine On My Own? I Do Not Have Prior Experience, But Am Willing To Try My Hands With The Wrenches And Screwdrivers. I Have Downloaded The Toyota Repair Manual. Do You Believe A Novice Should Even Try Something Of This Order? Would There Be Any Issues With Safety/Reliability If I Manage To Do It On My Own? Lastly, If I Find A Decent Car With A Blown Engine/Gasket, Is It Likely To Have Other Parts In Good Order? Or Is An Engine Failure Usually Accompanied By Failure Of Other Systems As Well?

an engine swap is not for a novice, there are far too many things you need to know before even attempting this , and as far as taking one engine out from another year and putting in one with a different year you open yourselt up to a lot of head aches. Its best to let professionals do the job or find someone w.illing to show you how, this would help save you money and gain valuable experience as well

How Recent Does A Smog Test Certificate Have To Be When Selling A Car?
So, It'S My First Time Buying A Used Car For School. All These &Quot;Top Guides&Quot; For Buying A Used Car On Craigslist For Noobies Like Me And I Have Yet To Come Across Any Advice Regarding Smog Checks. Apparently In California, The Seller Has To Provide Smog Certificates To The Buyer At Time Of Sale Or Transfer Or Else I Could Possibly Be Stuck From Transferring Ownership To Me So The Seller Goes Laughing With My Money. But I'M Not Aware If The Certificates Have To Be Recent. Say 2015 Recent. Some Cars I Look Up Have Certificates From 2014. Or 2006. Or None At All (Which Confuses Me When They Say They Have Recently Registered Their Car). The Only Thing I Can Pull From The Dmv Is: - Provide The Purchaser With Evidence Of A Valid Smog Certification, If Applicable. Smog Certificates Are Good For 90 Days From The Date Of Inspection. The Smog Certification Is Not Required If The Owner Or Buyer Signs A Statement That Smog Certification Was Submitted With Renewal Fees Within 90 Days Prior To The Transfer Date (A Vehicle Inspection Report May Be Required For Proof Of Certification).

Here's the CA DMV policy and requirement, which you have seen and read.

The seller is required to provide the buyer with a valid smog inspection certification at the time of the sale or transfer. Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance.

Meaning any automobile you purchase with CA with CURRENT registration has valid smog certification of 90 days, after which you are responsible to emission test the vehicle yourself register the vehicle within you name.
