Should You Really Leave Auto Repair To Some Professional Mechanic? Every car stops working
sooner or later, and that's a truth! With that said ,, some cars are prone to malfunctioning as opposed to others, and in case you're in a tough situation, you could be left to wonder: do i need to attempt a DIY auto repair or hire a mechanic? An oil change is an excellent instance of something even a novice driver could do, but if you have problems beyond that, receiving a car mechanic to accomplish the repairs might be a wise decision and here's why: Experience You possess absolutely no idea what you're doing and you may actually turn out making things worse. Even when you seem like you're a DIY savvy person, you could potentially turn out causing other parts of the car to malfunction. In addition to, you simply have no idea what's actually wrong with your vehicle, unless you accept it apart and hope with your might you may put it back together again again. A vehicle mechanic has been achieving this for a long time and he can easily diagnose and repair any problem your automobile could be up against. Right Tools You want the right tools and a decent workspace to begin focusing on auto repair. Unless you have a whole garage with tools and equipment devoted to this task, you need to invest in the required tools to repair your vehicle. Naturally, without prior experience working with car repair, you might not know what you should purchase, along with, you may never use these tools again. Working with a professional car mechanic can eliminate the requirement for you to invest money into equipment and tools you're unlikely to make use of again since he will currently have everything accessible. Speedy Repairs If you only have one household car you should utilize to get to work towards time, you have to be sure your car is fixed as soon as possible. Of course, when you attempt a DIY repair, things will go wrong, and even once they don't, it can take you plenty more time to get your car or truck running than if you were to engage a mechanic. Maybe you have your car out of commission for a couple of days when taking it to some mechanic, but it sure beats not being able to start working! Spend Less Perhaps just about the most compelling top reasons to drop your vehicle off for repair at a mechanic's is to save cash. You won't have to invest money into tools, equipment, and auto parts you might never need. Not forgetting, while your car or truck has run out of commission, you might have to rent an automobile or take the bus-- costing you additional money! Employing a mechanic for auto repair will save you in the long haul, particularly if take into consideration that a job well done can prolong the lifespan of your respective vehicle. The very next time your automobile will give you trouble, why not stop at a car mechanic's?

Head Gasket For A Toyota Camry?
I Have A '92 Toyota Camry That Needs A New Head Gasket.
How Much Would The Head Gasket Cost, And How Much Would Installation Cost? Just Wanna Know So I Wont Get Overcharged.
My Friend Told Me That Installation Would Be More Than A Grand. Best Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory Is That Right? He Said Its Cuz Its Really Difficult To Get To The Gasket.
The gasket itself is really cheap compared to the install cost, probably around 50-100 bucks
I wouldnt pay ANY MORE than 1000 bucks for the install. Shop and/or call around to find a better price. I got my head gasket replaced for only 600 bucks which i hear was a pretty good price. If you know someone that is really good with cars or even a mechanic willing to do it off the clock you could probably get it done for even less. Top Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory
About The Auto Repair Insurance...?
I Wanna Get The Auto Repair Insurance But Dont Know How Legit It Is... 10 Best Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory Never Heard Anything Else About It. Is It Real? Is There A Catch? If It Is Real Which Company Is Best? I Pretty Much Know You Have To Have Car Insurance, I Have That Already.
It is real, keep in mind that it only covers repairs for a wreck, not if your car breaks down. The better question to ask would be is it worth it?
My logic is simple but not for everyone Best Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory.
Background logic point #1:
- Only insure what you can't afford to replace; and even then, realize that it will cost, on average, in the aggregate, more to insure, than the damage that will occur (otherwise, insurance companies would be out of business).
Background logic point #2:
- Unless you know something the insurance company doesn't know, in the aggregate, they know better than you do what 'will' happen to you, statistically; so they have priced that into their tables (see point #1 which is they plan on staying in business). 10 Best Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory
With those key tenets in mind, here's my logic (using generic figures):
Let's say the cars you buy cost roughly $30K dollars, 2 years old, still under warranty (which is your habit, let's say).
Let's say you drive from age 20 to age 80 (i.e., 60 years driving life).
Over that driving life, let's say your 'collision & comp' averages, oh, in NJ, about $1,000/year; in California, about half that.
How much money is that?
NJ = $60K, CA = $30K
That's one or two complete cars paid for depending on your local costs for insurance (which is the key figure as cars are about the same price, roughly, everywhere).
In actuality, it's even more than that because the insurance company was only gonna give you $30K for the car on the first day; every day after that, it dropped in value while repair costs don't generally drop a whole lot in value. But, let's skip that, for now.
Now, let's play insurance actuary for a moment. Top Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory
You know YOUR driving habits; you know what YOUR neighborhood is like (e.g., theft), you know how YOUR kids drive; you know whether you drive drunk, or whether you drive many thousands of miles, etc.
So, how many cars do YOU think YOU will total in your lifetime that will be 100% your fault?
Hint: How many cars have you totaled so far?
Note: If it's someone else's fault, then you don't count it.
Let's assume, for argument's sake, you'll completely total two cars, all by your own fault (or by theft or acts of God and the like).
If you lived in NJ, you break even only after you completely total at least two cars (remember, it has to be your fault or theft-like circumstances)!
So, in NJ, you have to total more than two cars, just to get past the break-even point.
In California, the numbers are half that.
You would reach the break-even point when you total the first car.
Here's my summary:
As long as you can afford to replace the "object", it's generally not worth insuring because (and only because) the insurance company knows better than you do what your costs will be and they've priced that into your premium.
Moral of the story:
Calculate, over your lifetime, how much collision & comp costs you
Estimate, over your lifetime, how many cars you'll total
If the costs are appreciably greater than the number of cars you'll total, insurance isn't worth it (if you have the cash). Otherwise, get the insurance.

1996 Toyota Camry Keeps Overheating Very Badly?
I Have A 1996 Toyota Camry And It Started Overheating One Day...Well My Dad Thought It Might Be The Water Pump So I Bought A Water Pump And When My Dad Went To Put It On He Discovered This Wasn'T The Problem.
Well It Didn'T Overheat For A While And Then It Started Again....And It Just Did It On Occasion, But Now It'S Getting Worse. I Can'T Even Drive For 45 Minutes Without My Car Overheating And Me Having To Put More Antifreeze Or Water In The Radiator.
It Also Has Trouble Starting From Time To Time.... Top Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams DirectoryIt'Ll Drive Fine And Then When I Go To Start It Again It Won'T Start For Like Ten Minutes.
I'M Going To Eventually Take It To A Mechanic, But That Takes Money Which I Don'T Have A Lot Of...Just Wanted To Get Some Opinions On Here First.
put some peppermint oil in the radiator a little bit. drive it for 30 minutes if you smell the peppermint coming out of the exhaust you have a blown head gasket leaking into your valves. it is being cooked and exits thru your exhaust. if you oil looks like chocolate milk then its going into your crankcase.you could try putting black pepper in your radiator. if that does not work with the engine cold, crack an egg into your radiator and run for 30 minutes. i know this sounds crazy but i have used pepper to plug a leak in my radiator and it held for over 3 years until i sold the car and the kid who bought had it 2 years. Top Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams Directorythe egg trick is for a cracked block but it might work. you also for under 10 bucks and 2 bolts should change the thermostat, which i normally do when i change the waterpump.
Why Are Toyota 4 Runners So Reliable?
My Parents Have Two Toyota 4Runners. 10 Best Auto Body Repair in Williams DirectoryOne Is A 1997 4Runner With 280,000 Miles On It And It Still Runs. And They Have Another 2001 4Runner With 120,000 Miles On It And Still Runs New. Why Are 4Runners Such Good Cars.
Those years were particularly good years for the 4Runner. It was well developed and the early problems with the head gaskets was fixed. It is also made IN JAPAN. all the materials and components are very carefully controlled. The suppliers are very highly developed and provide highest quality parts. The assembly lines are fully equipped with all types of high-tech tools that help the teams of workers do the job right as they assemble the vehicles. Best Ten Auto Body Repair in Williams Directory The workers take pride in making a quality product.
My Car Is Overheating...?
My 1995 Toyota 4Runner Lately Has Been Running Hot And It Seems When I Have My Heater On It Overheats And When Its Off, It Does Fine. The Coolant Level Always Seems To Drop, But There Arent Any Leaks And Its Not Blowing Out Of My Exhaust. I Heard It Could Be A Bad Thermostat And So I Went To Replace It, But There Was No Thermostat There In The First Place...I Used A Pan To Drain The Coolant Out When I Loosened Up The &Quot;Thermostats Compartment&Quot; And Replaced The Thermostat. Re-Added Coolant Till The Radiator Was Full And Tried Running My Truck. It Started Kind Of Rough And Turned Off... I Checked The Coolant Level And It Didnt Go Down Any. What Could Be My Problem?
its a 4runner and most of those were a 3liter(very few were 22R, and you didnt specify, so will assume a 6 cylinder) They did have waterpump leaks that would leak inside the timing cover and were hard to detect. But, my gut feeling and knowing V-6 runners is that it has a head gasket leak. The rough running after startup was a clue as was the unfound coolant loss. The engine will consume it in small quantities. Coolant in either #6 or #1 will cause the rough start til it burns off. Some more testing is needed to confirm my suspicion (block test with dye is one way) as it is potentially an expensive repair and you don't want to guess at it. A special test tool is installed at the radiator and filled with blue dye. If there is combustion gas present (as from a gasket leak) inside the radiator, the dye will turn yellow. If yor truck has super high miles (250k plus) it may be time to trade. ( the gasket may just be the start of major problems; oil usage-noise/rattles from worn pistons-etc) Get it checked and then decide the next action. Good Luck--T&T
How Reliable Is A 93 Toyota 4Runner With A V6 3.0 ?
If Any One Has Had Good Luck With These Trucks ?
incredibly reliable if taken care of. Theyll last over 200000 miles with basic repair and maintenance. BUT, only problem with toyota 3.0 v6 are the head gaskets. even then its not very common to have that problem, usually happens with heavy use like off orading and such. I got a 86 4runner with 2.4 22re with 170000 miles only had to replace starter,my dads got an 88 with over 220000 strong.
Auto Collision Repair Tech?
Does Anybody Know How Much You Make As An A.C.R.T? Thanks.
Not much now days...ever watch GEICO commercials?, they save you the money out of the collision repair techs pocket, the shop is NOT going to lose money. Most all collision repair shops pay their techs on a commission basis which the insurance companies control.
Sounds like a great job, but after a few years you realize it is a lot of work and not any fun. Ever hear of "cycle times", it is where the insurance company promises the repair in "x" amount of time and you must repair perfectly in that time or less.
Takes at least five years to stand on your own as a body tech and investment of $5-10 K in tools and equipment....I got out of the business after 25 years because I wanted a steady, predictable income.
Try college to get a job where you can wear clean clothes.
Is Buying Damaged Cars And Repairing Them A Good Business?
I Am Thinking To Buy Damaged Cars From The Insurance Auction, Repair Them And Sell Them. They Will Have Rebuildable Title But What Really Does Salvage Title Mean?
Would This Bring Money In My Pocket?
Say If I But A 2004 Honda Accord Coupe At 60,000 Miles And I Paid 3,500$ At Auction And All That Needs Replacing Is The Door.To Replace The Door I Paid 800$ Now The Car Is At 4,300$
If I Turn Around And Sell This Car For 5,300$ (1000$ Profit) Or Even Sell It For $7000,Would I Be Making Money From A Car That Worth 10,000$ With A Clean Title?
Do You Think The Car Will Sell Or People Will Buy?
Can I Make A Living Out Of This?
Once you buy a salvage car, it is either titled as salvage, or rebuilt. You do not make a clean title simply by fixing it. Secondly, You almost never find a perfectly running car with a bashed in door that is totaled. Other hidden issues like torn up suspension or frame damage, these are more likely than not. Getting into an insurance auction means you need a wholesalers license too. or be working with one when you purchase the vehicle.
Insurance company has the vehicle listed in their data base as a total, and will never pay full price again no matter what happens to it. People have paid insurance for years, gotten in a bad accident and lost all of the money they put in the car. Often times major systems fail to work properly ever again such as air conditioning or air bags or the abs systems on brakes for example. These cars have difficult to sell , and the owner almost always ends up lying to sell the car in a hurry. It is possible to buy some cheap local cars for not much money, and clean them up and turn them around and resell them. How ever now a days the dmv takes a much dimmer view of people who sell or trade more than a few cars a year.and you do not want to get jammed up at a 10,000 dollar fine Per car fine levied now. Buying and selling used cars or motorcycles, will be the biggest challenge of your integrity and truthfulness you will ever face. .
I had a lot of fun, but there are challenges as well some were bigger than any gun, and took a lot more time and energy. And that's if things go right. And if they go wrong , something as simple ar a test drive where the guy dis appears for a few hours, in a car with a bad radiator,(which you forgot to tell him but were planning too,, when he said be back in " A FEW MINUTES" THREE HOURS LATER HE SHOWS UP , ITS OBVIOUS HE TOOK THE CAR FOR A JOY RIDE, ( funny, I guess the neighbors a few houses down blocked him in when he parked in their spot) so he had to sit for a while ) You also need to have a special kind of insurance. And not every state does this anymore. And you do not want tho have an accident in a uninsured car you are trying to sell. Because now the state can yank your license for a year for uninsured accident, and it raises your insurance rates among other things, just trying to make up some extra bomeny can be a serious depressing problem
What Type Of Attorney Deals With Automotive Repair Issues.?
My Engine Was Recently Reassembled Improperly By An Automotive Repair Shop. This Led To My Engine Block Fracturing During Use And Becoming Completely Useless. I Plan On Demanding Compensation Equal To The Amount Of A New Engine Replacement, But Before I Do That, I Want To Make Sure That I Can Immediately Hire An Attorney To Sue If They Choose To Ignore My Request.
I Am Wondering What An Attorney That Deals With This Type Of Case Would Designate Themselves As, Or What Type Of Law Office I Should Be Calling.
Thank You In Advance.
There's no official category of law specializing in auto repair disputes. What you'll want to look for is a civil litigation attorney, but avoid the ones that heavily advertise personal injury claims. As someone else suggested, you may want to contact your insurance company as well...it may be covered (in which case, they'll deal with the attorney issue) or may be able to refer you to an attorney they've dealt with before.
Smog Certificate-What Do I Do?
I Bought A Car From A Private Party And Didn'T Realize He Was Responsible For The Smog Certificate(By Law). My Car Will Not Pass Smog And I Was Referred To The State Referee Mechanic And He Told Me That The State Won'T Even Give Me A Waiver For The Next Two Years. My Car Cannot Be Repaired And I Need A New Engine. I Called The Seller And Told Him That He Was Reponsible For The Smog And He Said There Was Nothing He Could Do About It. The Agreement That I Signed Was An As Is, But The Calif Law Says He Is Responsible For The Smog. Does Anyone Know If This Will Hold Up In A Small Claims Court, Because The Seller Does Not Want To Give Me My Money Back, And I Have Already Paid Out On Repairs Even Before I Knew The Car Would Not Pass Smog.
AS IS means as is. Not "I hereby warrant the vehicle is road worthy and I guarantee it will pass any and all smog inspections." The seller can legitimately claim he sold you the vehicle for parts only, as is.
