Is Kia Rio A Decent Used Car?
Hell All - Looking For A Car To Get For Mom. Are Used Models From 2004 To 2007 Any Good? Would Probably Look For One With 60K Mile Or Less. I Would Like To Hear Qualified Opinions From People Who Actually Own Or Have Owned This Car. Let Me Know Of Any Quality Issues And How Much You Like Or Dislike This Particular Model. Thanks All Top Ten Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

I think the first generation Rio is derivitive of what Ford sold in the US badged as the Aspire.

The Ford Aspire was an appropriately named car. It aspired to be a real car but fell short. Top Ten Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

The first Rio had it's share of problems. Electrical, head gasket, etc... Really no worse than an Escort, Cavalier, or Neon though.

The current generation (05+) is a similar design to the Hyundai Accent. It should be a better quality car

What Is The Highest Paid Automotive Mechanic Most Popular Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory?
I Asked A Question A Couple Of Weeks Ago About Mechanics And I Saw That Someone`S Mechanic Teacher Worked At Land Rover And Made Over $200,000 A Year. If You Are An Automotive Mechanic For A Luxury Car Company Does That Generally Pay You High? I Have Always Wanted To Be A Mechanic For A Nice Company Like Mercedes-Benz Or Bmw

most Mechanics are paid on what is called a flag hour scale based on an hourly rate. so if a say for instance a tune up,and a brake jobwith turning the rotors. calls for a total of 7 flag hours. And the Mechanic completes the entire Job in 3 hrs. Then they pay him for 7 hrs at what ever his hourly rate is. but if that same job takes him 10 hrs to complete then he only gets paid for 7 hrs. 10 Best Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

So a good mechainc who is fast and accurate can make as much as he wants in one day. So $200,000 a year is possible without working for BMW , Mercedes- Benz.

What Toyota 4Runners (What Years) Had Problems With Blown Had Gaskets?
I'M Looking At A 1999 Toyota 4Runner V6 And I'M Wondering If There'S A High Likelihood Of The Head Gaskets Going Out. Or We'Re Those Problems Fixed By That Year Top Ten Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory?

Head gaskets haven't really been a trouble spot on either of the 3rd-generation (1996-2002) engines. There is the occasional head gasket failure in that generation, but the percentage isn't large enough to be notable.

The engine with the most notorious head gasket issues was the 3VZ-E 3.0L V6 that was available in 4runners from 1988-1995. Even then, the problematic head gaskets were replaced by Toyota under a service bulletin and the failure rate on the replaced gaskets is not high enough for concern. The rumor mill ran wild with the initial head gasket failures, so the 3VZ-E still has a tarnished reputation, even though it's a fairly decent engine as a whole. 10 Best Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

I Failed My Smog Test?
My 2001 Cadillac Deville Just Failed The Smog Test. It Said It Was The Vehicle Failing The Mil/Check Engine Light Test Due To Failure To Successfully Complete All Obd Self Tests. Also The Obd Diagnostics Said The Catalyst Was Not Ready And The Evaporative System Not Ready. Can Anyone Explain This To Me And Suggest What I Should Do? Thanks Most Popular Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

The car runs some tests of the emissions system as you drive it. Sometimes these tests require several hundred miles of normal driving to complete, or specific types of driving, called a "drive cycle". For example, some tests might require the car to be warmed up and going over 35 mph for a certain amount of time.
OBD means On Board Diagnostics. Having OBD tests not complete means the OBD system hasn't had time to complete all its tests. This can happen if the battery was replaced or run dead recently.
http://www.justanswer.com/cadillac/2ujzp-need-drive-cycle-cadillac-seville-sls-2001.html shows a drive cycle. You just need to do the ones related to the catalyst (5 minutes of steady 55-60mph). That should take care of your evap system also. If not, do the ones that say "EVAP purge" also. Best Ten Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

How Do You Change The Water Pump In A '95 Ford Contour Do You Have To Remove The Motor Mount Or Timing Belt Top Ten Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory?

For the V6 of this model year, it's relatively easy. Best to ensure the engine cannot be started by removing the battery ground cable first. While draining the coolant via the rad petcock (don't ask me how these things get their names), remove the plastic cover over the front cylinder bank. The water pump should then be visble on the driver side of the block below the front head. It is driven by the front camshaft pulley and a belt that uses a small tensioner. You can release the belt tension by hand. The air filter housing cover and inlet that is attached to the air horn (on top of the engine) and anything connected to this assembly, must be removed. There are also a few small hoses, wiring connectors and other paraphenalia that will have to be disconnected. Make careful observations during dis-assembly and re-assembly. Sorry that my memory is a bit fuzzy on this part, but I recall that some of the pump mounting bolts are what are sometimes referred to as through-bolts (since they pass through something you usually don't want to disturb; in this case the pump housing attached to the block). I was careful not to disturb this housing too much; there may have been one or two bolts holding it in place that did not need to be disturbed. If that's the case, leave them alone and you should not need any other gaskets other than the one for the pump assembly. Always check your new parts for clues to dis-assembly and to confirm you have the right part for the job. Make sure all of the old gasket material has been scraped/sanded of of the block before installing your new or rebuilt pump. Best Ten Car Repair Estimate in Williams Directory

Car Overheated Now Stalls And Possible Knock?
I Just Bought A 96 Ford Contour, It Started Overheating Then The Lower Coolant Hose Blew Open, Instantly Cooled The Engine And Returned To Normal Operating Temperature, It Started Overheating A Few Hours Before That And Started Rattling And Stalled, I Parked It And Let It Cool. Now After Driving For A Bit It Starts Its Rattle And Wants To Stall, It Doesnt Overheat Anymore But It Rattles Really Bad Now And Stalls When I Stop. It Only Rattles At Idle And Under Acceleration, It Sounds Like A Four Cylinder Diesel Engine When It Rattles, Almost Like A Knock. I Cant Find Any Water Or Antifreeze In The Oil So Im Not Sure If The Headgasket Blew When It Overheated. Any Help Asap Would Be Greatly Appriciated As Im At A Friends Out Of Town Now. My Main Question Is Is My Engine Knocking Or The Low Coolant Causing The Rattle And Stall?

The rattle/knock might be a rod bearing. If the head gasket blows between a cylinder and the water jacket then you will have coolant mixing with the oil (which can be hard to detect), but you'll also have oil in the coolant (oil floats on water). Have a mechanic diagnose the knock and the head gasket, fix the cooling system problem. Auto parts store techs can help you find a good, local mechanic.

Question Regarding The Salary Of An Auto Mechanic?
We Had Lived In Tucson Arizona For A Short Time And My Husband Was Offered A Job As An Auto Detailer At A Dealership. At The Time He Did Not Take It Because We Were Returning Back To Mesa Arizona Because I Got A Promotion. My Husband Will Be Relocating Back To Tucson This Fall To Take A Position And Swears Up And Down That The Auto Detailers And That Dealership Make Between 80K To 100K A Year And That The Mechanics Make Anywhere Between 250K To 300K. I Told Him Go Ahead And Take The Job But He May Be Disappointed. These Salaries Seem Awfully High. Do Detailers And Mechanics Make This Much Money? This Is An Ongoing Argument And I Finally Told Him Ahead And Move But You May Be Moving Back In No Time.

Car Wont Pass Smog Test?
'M Looking Into Buying A 97 Chevy Blazer Its Non Salvaged, 194Xxx Miles. But It Doesn'T Pass The California Smog Test. Aside From The Fact That It Would Be Illegal To Drive, Does It Have Any Affects On The Performance Of The Vehicle? What Could Be The Problem That Causes It Not To Pass The Smog Test? How Could I Fix It? Is It Worth Buying For $900? Thanks People

In CA the only way a car can be sold without passing the smog test is for salvage value or parts.

All cars sold for normal use must have a smog test performed within the prior 90 days if I remember right.

No way to be sure what it would take to pass the smog test with that vehicle.

If it needs catalytic converter(s) the cost could be more than the price of the truck.

Should I Use Geico Auto Repair Xpress?
I Have A Bmw 328Xi Coupe 2008. I Was Hit By A Person Insured By Geico. It Was A Hit And Run But I Got The Plate Number And The Cops Found The Person And Placed Them At Fault Pretty Much. I Wanted To Know, Should I Go Through Geico Auto Repair Xpress Since They Offer Guarantee To Repair Car If Anything Happens In Future. Or Should I Just Go With My Own Body Shop And Go Through A Longer Process.

I wouldn't go through Geico auto repair Xpress. I have Geico, and i was hit a week after i got my brand new car. They sent me to a dealership in my area called Hoffman Auto Group (Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Lexus, auto body, etc) They were completely off with the paint matching, and stole my floor mats. I eventually got Geico to repaint the bumper and got my floor mats back, but i had to use a Ford Fusion rental car with 34k miles on it for a week and then an Impala with 55k miles on it for several days while my new car was in the shop. Not the best feeling. I got hit in the same place again in 2009 and brought it to my own body shop, and the paint match was perfect, and i saved $1k from Geico's payout. I would go to your trusted shop as they will fix anything down the road if they made a mistake as well

Interview Questions For A Automotive Mechanic...?
I'M Doing A Project For School Where I Have To Interview An Automotive Mechanic. For Anyone Who Is One Could You Please Answer The Following Questions About Your Job? There Are 6 Questions. How Did You Become A Mechanic? What Kinds Of Things Do You Do In A Normal Day? What Is Your Least Favorite Part Of The Job? What Is The Most Challenging Part Of The Job? What Are The Most Important Skills That You Use? What Advice Do You Have For Someone Who Is Interested In Your Field?

1) learned the trade through on the job training, reading, and some tech courses from private school.

2) everything from regular vehicle maintenance to resolving major issues.

3) the very few (fortunately) unfamiliar people i meet who think every mechanic is a cheater.

4) repairing complicated issues which are not so readily recognizable. ie; some difficult computer problems, some no-start conditions, issues that are not found in our manuals.

5) obviously manual dexterity, but more importantly, intelligence.

6) as a boss the tough points - be prepared for long hours, physical stamina, adverse weather conditions, no such word as sick days.

Hi, Car Seller Didn'T Provide Smog Certificate And The Car Failed Smog Test. ?
Hi, I Bought A 2002 Lancer From A Dealer. And He Didn'T Provide The Smog Pass Certificate, So I Tried Smog Test And The Car Failed. And Engine Service Light Suddenly Came On. I Think The Seller Turned Off The Light On Purpose When He Sold The Car. What Should I Do In This Situation?

This will depend on your State law.

If it requires all used cars sold to be able to pass the smog test then you have a valid complaint and should return to the dealer so they can fix the problem.

If no such law exist, your S.O.L. since all used cars are sold "As is".

Good luck.
