You can also go with your county bar association, which is more focused on your area and will probably yield better results.

I have provided links to these referral services below. They will give you a good place to start. Then you can call the numbers they give you and judge for yourself who you think is best.

Personal Injury Claim?
I Was Involved In A Mortorbike Accident Where The Other Party Was At Fault And Admitted To It. I Racked Up $13.5K In Er Bills And Since Then Have Seens A Sports Medicine Doctor For Type Ii Shoulder Seperation And Rotator Cuff Injuries (About $2.5K), Plus Seeing A Physical Therapist (10 Visits Or So). I'M Want To Settle My Case Preferable Without A Lawyer With A Fair Settlement. I'Ve Read About The &Quot;Multiply By 3 Rule&Quot; And Seems That It Might Not Be Valid. I'M Wondering What A Reasonable Settlement Should Be For The Pain & Suffering/ Special Damages. Could I Get The Services Of A 3Rd Part Adjuster To Get A Better Idea?

From an adjuster's point of view - there is no such thing as a multiply by 3 rule. Basically the adjuster will make you an offer based on the severity of your injuries, your treatment, and pain and suffering will be based on a combination of those things as well as any permanency issues - and if it had an affect on your life. You were on a motorcycle, you obviously have more than just "soft tissue" injuries - and have racked up what about $16-$17K in special damages (plus any wage loss?) if it's a good insurance company, they'll make you a fair offer.

Just FYI - if they do make an offer, it is always up for negotiation - just know your arguing points. Make your case. If they can justify an increase in the offer, then they will increase the offer - so make VALID not generic arguments. AND say the insurance company does make you an offer and you don't like it, so you go get an attorney, chances are you won't get much more than if you were to negotiate it yourself - and the attorney will take anywhere from 25% to 40% off the top - do the math - you'll get more without an attorney no matter what you settle it for.

Question About Child Visitation Rights?
My Sister Has Two Children. Their Father Is In Jail For A Long Time. For A While She Left Her Two Children In Their Fathers Cousin'S Care Until She Got Her Life Together And Found A Place To Stay. One Was With One Cousin And The Other Was With Another. She Signed Papers For The Younger One And Put Him In The Cousin'S Custody. She Found Out That They Were Not Being Taken Care Of Like They Should Be So She Picked Them Up One Day For Good. Now The Two Cousin'S Are Threatening To Beat Her Up If She Doesn'T Let Them See The Kids. They Have Been Harassing Her A Lot Lately And She Wants To Get A Restraining Order. My Question Is Do They Have Any Rights? Will They Be Able To Get Visitation Rights For The Kids? They Might Even Try To Get The Fathers Mother Involved So She Could Try To Get It Also? Can She Or Anyone Else Get Visitation Rights Without The Mothers Consent?

There are several elements to this question that have not yet been shared. My first question would be, what was the original custody situation after the birth of each child? Were the mother & father married, with both names on each birth certificate? I do not care if you were married or not; however that can play a part in custody.

You've said that she signed 'papers'; however what were they? Were they notarized? Signed by a judge? What?

It would be my guess that since she at some point had to get her life together that the proper legal requirements were not followed; however I could be wrong.

If she in fact did give up her parental rights of either or both children, then the cousins may just have something. If it was more or less a handwritten document between the 2 people, then it becomes a bit more suspect.

Do the cousins that were taking care of the children actually love them, but do not have the knowledge of how to properly raise children OR is there some sort of financial benefit to whomever takes care of these children? If this is the case who is truly the better caregiver for these children?

It all sounds very unfortunate as I do understand what your sister had tried to do; however please provide more answers regarding this situation.

Irrespective of all of this, whether or not the grandmother gets involved is irrelevant the legal custody of those children needs to be proven or re-established.

As far as the threats go, it is illegal to threaten the harm of another and she should report these taunts/threats. The children is a civil matter and cannot be handled by the police - do not make this their issue.

Find a court services officer or someone that can best direct your sister on these matter in the state that she lives in..

I wish you well!
