4 Approaches To Help Your Lawyer Help You When you really need a lawyer for any excuse, you have to work closely together in order to win your case. No matter how competent they can be, they're gonna need your help. Listed here are four important strategies to help your legal team assist you to win: 1. Be Totally Honest And Up Your lawyers need and expect your complete cooperation - irrespective of what information you're going to reveal in their mind. Privilege means everything you say is kept in confidence, so don't hold anything back. Your legal team has to know everything in advance - most importantly information another side could check out and surprise you with later. 2. Provide Meticulous Records Keep a regular and factual account of all information associated with your case. Whether it's witnesses or payments being made, provide your attorneys with all the current data they have to assist them to win. 3. Show Up Early For Those Engagements Never be late when you're appearing before a court and avoid wasting the attorney's time, too, when you are on time, each and every time. In reality, because you might need to discuss last second details or be extra ready for the way it is you're facing, it's smart to arrive early. 4. Demonstrate Which You Have Your Act Together If you've been arrested for any kind of crime, it's important in order to prove to a legal court which you both regret the actions and they are making strides toward improving your life. By way of example, if you're facing a DUI, volunteer to get a rehab program. Be sincere and included in the community the judge is presiding over. Working more closely with your legal team increases your odds of absolute success. Follow these tips, listen closely to how you're advised and ultimately, you need to win your case.

Law Office Filing System?
I Am A Paralegal At A Small, 2 Lawyer Firm. So Far, The Filing System Consisted Of Entering Names Of Existing Files Into A Long Word Doc, But There Were A Lot Of Inconsistencies, Duplicates, And Misfilings, So We Have To Reorganize The Whole Thing.
Basically, We Have A Few Really Big Clients That Have Many Projects Consisting Of Many Folders, And Then A Bunch Of Little Clients. We Do Mainly Commercial Real Estate, So There'S A Lot Of Paper Involved....Scanning Everything In Isn'T An Option Because The Boss Isn'T Computer-Savy Enough For That....
So, Basically, The Question I Have Is - How Do You Develop A Numbering Systems For The Files? I Read About Splitting The Alphabet Into Segments (A - Ad, Ad - B, And So On), But I'M Not Quite Clear On How It Works, And How You Add A File To A Client Who Already Has Other Files (Since You Want Them To Be Next To Each Other).
Sorry For The Long Question. Would Really Appreciate Help! :)
Create a general billing number for each client.
12345 - Client A
67890 - Client B
25904 - Client C
and so forth (I'm using 5 numbers, but you can use less if you want to).
Then, for each individual file, in order of when the file began to be handled by the firm, create a number for that specific case - it can either be by the court case number (which it doesn't look like you have many since you do commercial real estate) or just a new number, beginning with 1 (although I might start it with 001). Don't forget to put a "dash" in between the first series of numbers and second series of numbers.
For example, the first case that your office ever handled for Client A would be 12345-001. Second case is 12345-002, and so forth.
Then, create either a new Word Document so that you have the numbers of each of the files in there or add to the existing document.
Also, when you file documents (hard copies), make sure you get a Redwell that has an "insert" / "tail" (not sure what they're called") so you can put the number along the side of the file for easy access. You can also get numbers (large for the client, small for the case number) from any office supply store to put them along the side of the file.
Hope this helps....
My Friend Is In A Really Bad Marriage Right Now Her Husband Has Been Known To Hit Her And Be Very Mentally Abusive. She Came By Today And Ask Me To Go To Her County And File For Divorce With Her Because He Has Been Taking A Flash Light And A Gun And Searching Every Inch Of The House Everyday Like Ten Times A Day. He Is On Drugs Or Something But She Cant Even Sleep So She Is Staying With Me For A While. What Would Be The Best Way For Her To Go About This She Is Scared That He Will Try To Come Over Here And Hurt Her And My Family. He Is A Pshyco Andvery Capiable Of It. So My Question Is What Should She Do And Can She File For Divorce In A Different County From Where They Live. Will A Restraining Order Really Work For Her If She Lives Here. Please Any Advice Would Be Great.
My advice is both for her safety and yours - monday morning, go to your police department and ask about filing an order of protection.. usually one can be filed at the courthouse and can be granted immediately.. at my courthouse there was a "legal advocate" who helped fill out the papers and stood with me before the judge. I was in and out with one in a matter of hours... Then she will need to go to the police dept where she lived, where she works, and any other places listed in the order of protection and have them make a copy of it to keep on file. She needs to keep this with her at all times.
Immediately she needs to contact a Women's abuse shelter (listed in the phone book) and go there.. they have security and a safe place for her.. trust me, these women know how to provide for her safety and to help her with counseling, and help her get back on her feet.
But, she needs to leave your home. I know it's harsh, but many times husbands fly off and attack the people that are housing the wife because in his mind, if you weren't there, she'd be home and it's your fault. You don't want us to read about your family on the news.. you've seen it yourself too often.. Be her friend.. but don't risk your family for her..
And, the women's shelter is experienced in how to help her with this.. Best of luck and you, your family, and your friend are in my prayers.
Can I Become A Lawyer In Ga, With A Felony ?
Hello I Was Wondering If I Could Become A Lawyer In Ga If I Had A Felony Back When I Was 21 (28 Now) In The State Of Va.
They Were 2 Class C Felonies For Having The Possesion Of Stolen Items. Would Any 1 Know?
Here is something I know a lot about...I had a criminal record when I became a lawyer...
Felonies make it harder...but they don't completely preclude it...I'm assuming that you haven't yet started law school, so you have some time to work on it...Here is my advice...
The first thing I would do is get a therapist...start going to "work out" your issues...whether you need it or not...this will be something you can tell the character and fitness committee...
In addition, volunteer....a lot....do a bunch of community service activities...and everyplace that you do these activities...get to know the people in charge...get them to like you so you can get references from them...again...this will help a lot later...
Finally...absolutely...pay any restitution that you haven't already paid...make sure that you keep your nose completely clean...vote in every election...
One last tip...if you can get those convictions expunged...do it...if not...that's okay...but it's better if they're expunged...
In any case, when planning your future, expect not to be licensed for at least a year or two out of law school...this means you're going to want to get employment that doesn't require a license...a clerkship or associate with a firm, etc...

Are Personal Injury Awards Exempt In Bankruptcy ?
I Was Wondering If Personal Injury Awards Can Be Seized In Chapter 7 Bankruptcy ?
Although bankruptcy is a federal law, the property that you can keep after filing bankruptcy is largely determined by state law. The laws of each state are different, so you should consult a local bankruptcy attorney instead of relying in any advice you receive in this forum.
